SUMMARY
Want to join us in making a difference? I'm raising money to help Liberian Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund, Inc. (Leader Fund) assist the people of Montserrado County in Liberia, West Africa. Your donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
The Liberian Government cannot provide water, sanitation, communal energy, and food for most of its population. Leader Fund wants to help bridge the gaps and help provide support to the people of Liberia.
LEADER FUND intends to implement a green infrastructure project that uses 3KW of solar energy to: access and distribute groundwater for drinking, sanitation, and hygiene to 10,000 persons. Also, Leader Fund intends to implement a small agriculture demonstration project to grow food crops
CHALLENGE
Most communities are challenged with lack of running water and sanitation, communal electricity, and lack of nutrient dense food. These communities basically shut down at night with kids not having the opportunity to study and no access to drinking water. Women and children spend an excessive amount of time fetching water. There is no public sanitation house with running water in these communities. Additionally, fresh nutritious vegetables and crops are not available for purchase at reasonable prices.
SOLUTION
This project will significantly impact communities and serve as a decentralized development model that can be implemented across Montserrado County and Liberia. This model integrates the nexus of energy, water, and food. It allows students an opportunity to study at night and the community to have communal electricity. It provides public water directly into the community and for the public sanitation house. It also produces nutrient-dense vegetables at reasonable prices for community members
LONG TERM IMPACT
This is a sustainable project that will benefit communities for more than 20 years with little maintenance. It provides running water, better hygiene, and the erection of a sanitation house will ensure open defecation is decreased. Students will have more study time, and the vegetables can be sold for community benefit. The project will reduce diseases and provide improved health for families. It will train at least 20 community members on implementing and managing the system.
