Help a Jamaican Refugee Escape Danger.

Imagine fleeing for your life, only to find yourself trapped in a foreign land with no way forward and no way back. This is the reality for a Jamaican asylum seeker who escaped danger back home, only to find himself stuck in Mexico with no clear path forward. Caught in a web of border uncertainty, danger, and racial profiling.

After being granted only a week to stay in the Mexico, desperate to find a safe haven, he traveled from one city to the next, only to be intercepted by immigration officials and taken to a remote area for processing. With no other options, he sought protection to avoid deportation back to Jamaica.

Since his release, life has been anything but safe. He has been robbed, targeted, and harassed by police and unknown individuals. Every day is a struggle for survival. But there is hope—with your support, we can help him navigate toward safety.

Newly arriving Black LGBTQI+ immigrants are facing overwhelming challenges as they seek refuge and safety in the United States. Many are unable to access critical legal services because they lack legal authorization to work. Even those who manage to find work often face prohibitively expensive legal fees. Pro bono services are scarce, leaving too many without the support they need to file for asylum. As a result, many miss their crucial one-year filing deadline, largely due to indirect discrimination based on their color and nationality.

At the Lighthouse Equality Advocacy Project, we're stepping up to ensure that these vulnerable individuals are not left behind. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to provide as much pro se support as possible. Just $100 can make a significant difference, covering the cost of pro se filing, a metro card, and a hot meal.

Additionally, Black LGBTQI+ immigrants in detention facilities face even harsher realities, struggling to access basic necessities, legal services, and emotional support. Your contribution will help us reach those who need it most, ensuring they have a fighting chance at justice and dignity.
