Hello family and friends,

This year, the Fairfield, CT half marathon falls on Sunday, June 2 - which also happens to be the birthday of my beloved Gram. She has been my inspiration to finally sign up, and in the process, I wanted to find a meaningful way to honor her legacy.

The Litchfield Performing Arts is a not-for-profit educational charity. Their Jazz Camp has been educating students every summer since 1997. Each year, they provide an average of $50,000 of financial aid. Their goal is to never turn away a child in need. Students come from across the U.S. and abroad to engage with world-renowned jazz musicians for a life-changing music education experience. There is no pre-audition; students are matched in skill-based combos. In addition to music, students also learn about college applications, scholarships, money management and self-marketing.

As many of you know, Gram had a life-long passion for music. Some of my very favorite memories are of her singing and dancing. We listened to a lot of jazz together on Sunday drives, and I can still hear her humming away…

I think Gram would be honored to have a Litchfield Jazz Camp scholarship in her name. Any donation will have an impact.

During this difficult time, our most important job is to protect the health and safety of our families, friends, and, of course, our jazz campers. In an abundance of caution, and with the advice of State and local health officials, we have decided it is in the best interest of our campers and staff to hold camp virtually this year. For sure, we are disappointed to have to change the way we conduct a wonderful, 24-year-old program. But in the spirit of what makes jazz unique, we improvise! After much collaboration and research, we have developed an engaging, new program we are calling Litchfield Jazz Camp, Virtually Yours! Our experienced and clever faculty and staff have been putting together a program we think you will all love.


Rest assured, our approach will be different from the distance learning you have lately become used to. We are aiming for excellence and energy in a high-quality, exciting, entertaining, and engaging jazz program with lots of playing, listening, and interaction between staff and students.

Just as many Nonprofits during this unprecedented time,  we are in an uphill battle to continue the annual summer tradition. All funds will be used to help offset the cost of running this program which includes amazing faculty members, unique classes such as theory, masterclasses, jazz history which will also include some music performances of historic musicians that are discussed and as always high-quality online concerts for both the students and the public to enjoy in the evenings.
