Organized by Los Angeles Community Garden Council

Earth Day Fundraiser for LA Community Gardens!
LACGC's mission is to strengthen communities and alleviate food insecurity by building vibrant community gardens so every person in Los Angeles County has access to healthy food. We envision our gardens as a hub for people of all ages and backgrounds to live healthy, active lives and connect to nature by growing fresh food. Our secondary goal is to bring people from diverse backgrounds together to share their experiences, cultures, and knowledge by participating in urban agriculture and advocating for more sustainable communities.
LACGC manages and operates just under half of the community gardens in LA County. There is no other organization doing what we do to make urban farming accessible to everyone in Los Angeles, to bring neighbors from different walks of life together and help them maintain a connection to the land in an age of rampant development. LACGC is the oldest organization doing this kind of work. We've built deep relationships with cities, government agencies, and nonprofits across LA County over the past 25 years. We have gardens from Watts, San Pedro, and Pasadena to Santa Monica, Koreatown, and East Los Angeles. At the start of the pandemic, we established two new gardens in Burbank and are working with Montebello to build our 45th garden.
We handle the business for all our gardens – negotiating land use agreements, managing garden dues, paying utility bills, and securing insurance. We also train garden leaders, oversee elections, and organize volunteers. Our garden elections tend to be well attended, often boasting 100% participation. We provide free workshops on nutrition, water management, gardening techniques and composting. We encourage members to design and lead their own workshops on topics like growing medicinal plants and raising vegetables from their native countries.
Spring in the gardens means renewed activity. This Earth Day, we are launching a GoFundMe to raise money for the incredibly important work we do to protect and cultivate the land, ecosystems, and people of LA County. Our fundraiser will last until June 1st, just in time to celebrate summer. Please consider making a donation today!
