My name is Kayra Martinez. I am the Director and Founder of Love Without Borders. Our team has been managing a housing project since 2016 in Athens, Greece, for refugees fleeing from the Middle East and Africa. With your support, we can continue to bring displaced individuals and families off the street into safe housing.

Love Without Borders (LWB) empowers refugees in Athens Greece through many initiatives; donations to this campaign will go directly to housing refugees who aren’t able to receive housing through government or other means.

Currently, there is an urgent need for housing for individuals and families in need. Among those seeking assistance are single women, families with several children, single men with medical conditions, and women with children. The demand for housing is substantial, and while the list is long, our organization hopes to find accommodation for all those in need.

Providing safe and stable housing is a crucial step in empowering refugees to rebuild their lives and work towards self-sufficiency. Your support as a donor, sponsor, or advocate for LWB's cause can directly contribute to finding housing solutions for these vulnerable populations.

WE SUPPORT INDEPENDENCE:

Our mission is to equip refugees with the tools they need to build independent lives. By connecting them to language learning programs and skill-building initiatives, we pave the way for their self-sufficiency and long-term success. We offer a one-year support system that aims to break the cycle of dependence on temporary aid, creating a sustainable path forward.

Since 2016, we have provided essential support to thousands of refugees from the Middle East and Africa, offering accommodation, meals, art workshops, and educational opportunities. Every story we witness inspires us.

Take, for example, the man with a medical condition who, after being homeless, found refuge in our home. Through our support, he not only regained his health, but also started painting, enabling him to stand on his own two feet and paying his own rent. This transformation is just one of many success stories we aim to create.

WE PRIORITIZE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

As the director of LWB, I want to ensure every dollar donated is used responsibly to maximize its impact on the lives of refugees. I am in direct contact with all the families, and singles, that require housing. I pay the landlords every month in order to sustain their accommodation.

All funds raised here are sent directly to the LWB bank account, and are used exclusively to pay refugee housing costs.

After many months of work, we are very near to closing the deal on purchasing and opening our own Community Center in Athens, and we need your help to raise funds. It is a beautiful, two-floor, 124 square-meter space in the heart of the Kypseli neighborhood, very close to our soon-to-be-opened Community Housing Building.  This Community Center will serve as our new Headquarters, with office space and a distribution center. It will also include classroom space for our art workshops/language and music lessons and will serve as a safe space for refugees to meet. Because if there is one thing we have learned from our years working here in Greece, it is that above all of the supplies and distribution and tangible help we can offer our fellow humans, what these displaced people truly need is to know that they belong to a community and that there is a safe, welcoming space out there for them to confidently, lovingly and safely grow.

 

We have already raised a portion of the amount with your help and are seeking €80.000 more to cover all costs of this project, from finalizing the purchase of the space to the opening of our doors, including renovations. In a further effort of solidarity, we will be partnering with a construction/renovation company founded by and employing only refugees, thereby further empowering the very community we are looking to serve and build.

Nach vielen Monaten der harten Arbeit, stehen wir kurz vor der Geschäftsabwicklung über den Kauf und die Eröffnung unseres eigenen Gemeindezentrums/Community Center in Athen und wir brauchen eure Hilfe, um genug Spenden dafür zusammen zu bekommen.  Es sind wunderschöne, zweistöckige, 124 Qudratmeter große Räumlichkeiten im Herzen des Kypseli-Viertels, ganz in der Nähe unseres bald zu eröffnenden "Community Housing Building".  Dieses Gemeindezentrum wird uns als unser neues Hauptquartier mit Büroräumen und einem Verteilungszentrum dienen.  Es wird auch Räume für unsere Kunstworkshops/Sprach- und Musikunterricht beinhalten und als sicherer Ort für Geflüchtete dienen, um sich dort zu treffen.  Denn wenn wir eines aus unserer jahrelangen Arbeit hier in Griechenland gelernt haben, dann ist es neben der Versorgung und Verteilung und der Hilfe, die wir unseren Mitmenschen bieten können, sie wissen zu lassen, dass sie zu einer Gemeinschaft dazu gehören und dass es da draußen einen sicheren, einladenden Raum gibt, in dem sie selbstbewusst, liebevoll und sicher wachsen können.

Wir haben bereits einen Teil des Betrags mit eurer Hilfe zusammengebracht und streben weitere 80.000 € an, um alle Kosten dieses Projekts zu decken, vom Verkaufsabschluss der Räumlichkeiten, bis zur Eröffnung unserer Türen, einschließlich aller Renovierungen. Als  weiteres Zeichen der Solidarität werden wir mit einem Bau-/Renovierungsunternehmen zusammenarbeiten, welches von Flüchtlingen gegründet wurde und welches Flüchtlinge beschäftigt. Damit wollen wir zusätzlich die Gemeinschaft stärken, der wir dienen und die wir aufbauen wollen.

Im Laufe der Jahre hat sich Love Without Borders zu einer wunderbaren internationalen Gemeinschaft von Freiwilligen/Helfern entwickelt, die Tausenden von Einzelpersonen und Familien aus einer Vielzahl von Ländern im gesamten Nahen Osten und Nordafrika helfen und wir alle sind  unglaublich dankbar für die Unterstützung.  Wir hoffen, dass ihr entscheidet ein Teil dieser vielfältigen und schönen Gemeinschaft von Menschen zu werden.
