Saving More Lives in 2025: A Sanctuary for Hope and Healing

At Love You More Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in West Chicago, IL, we are driven by one mission: to rescue dogs from homelessness, neglect, abuse, and unnecessary euthanasia. We provide life-saving care and sanctuary, working tirelessly to connect each dog with a loving home. Our vision is simple—every dog deserves more than mere survival; they deserve a fresh start, where love and safety replace fear and pain. Each life we save becomes a testament to the power of second chances.

In 2025, we have set an ambitious goal: to Save More Lives by expanding our capacity to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out more dogs than ever before. To achieve this, we need your support in rehabilitating a 900-square-foot building that is currently unusable. This project will transform it into a state-of-the-art sanctuary, allowing us to triple our rescue efforts and provide more dogs with the chance to thrive.

The Crisis We Face

Across the United States, animal shelters are overwhelmed. According to Shelter Animals Count, 3.2 million dogs entered shelters nationwide in 2023, with over 359,000 of these dogs being euthanized due to overcrowding, illness, or behavioral issues. In Illinois alone, Chicago Animal Care and Control reported a euthanasia rate of 14% in 2024, with thousands of adoptable dogs lost because of limited space and resources.

These figures reflect a harsh reality: the need for more rescue and rehabilitation efforts is critical. The causes are many—economic pressures, housing instability, and a lack of access to affordable veterinary care are all factors contributing to the overwhelming number of surrenders. According to the ASPCA, 14.1% of dog surrenders nationwide are linked to housing issues. Additionally, unsterilized pets contribute to overpopulation, further stressing already full shelters.

We believe this cycle can be broken at Love You More Animal Rescue. While our current facility works at maximum capacity, we often have to turn away dogs we could save. The dilapidated 900-square-foot building we wish to rehabilitate offers an opportunity to expand our operations and ensure that fewer dogs face the devastating reality of euthanasia.

Project Description:

A New Sanctuary for a New Beginning

The building we aim to rehabilitate is a 900-square-foot structure in West Chicago, IL. Currently uninhabitable due to severe structural damage and outdated utilities, it needs extensive renovations to become a safe, welcoming space for rescued dogs. The rehab will include:

• Demolition and Structural Rehab: Remove hazardous materials, reinforce the structure, and ensure compliance with building codes.

• Interior Build-Out: Install kennels for up to 15 dogs (we currently have 5), a room for veterinary care, and a place for the community to meet & interact with our dogs.

• Utilities Upgrade: Modernize plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems to meet the needs of both animals and staff.

• Site Work: Create safe outdoor exercise areas and runs for dogs, critical for socialization and adoption.

• Exterior Enhancements: Design secure, fenced areas for the dogs’ exercise and socialization.

The project will allow us to rescue more dogs, provide immediate medical care, and create a space where dogs can heal, thrive, and find their forever family.

Impact and Outcomes

This project will have far-reaching benefits, including:

• Increased Capacity: Our ability to house up to 15 dogs at a time—tripling our current capacity.

• Lives Saved: We anticipate rescuing an additional 60 dogs annually from euthanasia, abuse & homelessness based on regional trends.

• Community Engagement: Expansion of our community education programs to reduce surrenders, especially through spay/neuter advocacy and responsible pet ownership workshops.

• Adoption Success: By improving facilities for socialization and care, we expect to shorten average shelter stays from 60 days to 45 days, increasing adoptions by 15-20%.

Through this expanded sanctuary, we will give more dogs a chance to rewrite their story, turning fear and suffering into hope and love.

Sustainability

After the completion of the rehabilitation, we have a clear plan to sustain the sanctuary’s operations:

• Ongoing Fundraising: We will continue our annual fundraising events, adoption fairs, and community donation drives, which have proven successful in maintaining our operations.

• Adoption Fees: Reasonable adoption fees will help support ongoing costs while ensuring that dogs are placed in responsible homes.

• Donor Engagement: We maintain strong relationships with our donors through regular updates, newsletters, and recognition programs, which help secure ongoing support.

• Volunteer Support: Our volunteer network helps reduce operational costs by providing in-kind services and assisting with events and fundraisers.

• Partnerships and Grants: We are committed to seeking additional grants and corporate sponsorships to supplement our fundraising efforts.

By diversifying funding sources and engaging our community, we will ensure the long-term sustainability of the sanctuary and continue to save lives for years to come.
