I'm Sophia and I'm participating in the UltraMARAthon on 23.11.2024 - a 50KM marathon in the Greater Maasai Mara, Kenya. The run supports three central organizations: Mara Elephant Project, Africa Mission Services, and Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies.
Help me raise funds for the these organizations, that are working to address three major challenges in the region:
- Poaching: The Mara Elephant Project works to prevent illegal poaching, using on-site patrols and technology to protect elephant populations
- Human-wildlife conflicts: As the human population grows, so do conflicts between wildlife and local communities. These organizations aim to mitigate conflict through practical solutions that protect both wildlife and livelihoods.
- Habitat loss: The expansion of human settlements and changes in land use are leading to the loss of important wildlife habitats. The protected areas help to preserve these areas and ensure that the ecosystem remains intact for both animals and the local economy.
With your donation, you support the ongoing efforts beyond the marathon to address these issues and preserve the Maasai Mara for generations to come.

- Wilderei: Das Mara Elephant Project setzt sich für die Verhinderung illegaler Wilderei ein und nutzt vor Ort Patrouillen und Technologie, um Elefantenpopulationen zu schützen
- Mensch-Wildtier-Konflikte: Mit dem Wachstum der menschlichen Bevölkerung nehmen auch die Konflikte zwischen Wildtieren und lokalen Gemeinden zu. Diese Organisationen zielen darauf ab, Konflikte durch praktische Lösungen zu mindern, die sowohl Wildtiere als auch Lebensgrundlagen schützen.
- Lebensraumverlust: Die Ausweitung menschlicher Siedlungen und Veränderungen in der Landnutzung führen zum Verlust wichtiger Lebensräume für Wildtiere. Die Schutzgebiete tragen dazu bei, diese Gebiete zu bewahren und sicherzustellen, dass das Ökosystem sowohl für Tiere als auch für die lokale Wirtschaft intakt bleibt.
