MELA is an interdisciplinary arts organization dedicated to the encouragement of creativity in the fields of music, the visual arts, and other media; to the application of advanced technologies to artistic expression; and to the presentation of major extended duration installations that expand the boundaries among artistic disciplines. A primary focus of MELA has been the presentation of the living tradition of Indian classical music and the cultivation of the vital link between Eastern and Western art. MELA develops and maintains extensive archives containing recordings, scores, photographs and related materials documenting the work of some of the central figures in contemporary art.
