2020 USAFA GRAD COVID-RELIEF
As many of you know, a long standing tradition of the Academy is to put money in your parade cap that you throw in the air at graduation. For a normal graduation, kids are let on the field and able to pick up the money. With our graduation being closed to the public, it doesn’t make sense for us to partake in this tradition and put the $20.20 in our hats, so Will Taylor and I came up with an alternate idea.
We started a fundraiser for COVID-19 relief that will be donated to Mile High United Way. The description for the event is below.
"The Colorado COVID Relief Fund is hosted by the State of Colorado and Mile High United Way. The fund will be overseen by a committee of community leaders from across Colorado and will be providing aid to support Colorado communities and organizations affected by the recent outbreak of COVID-19. Funds will provide flexible resources to organizations in our state working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by the outbreak."
We have the opportunity to really make a difference here. By no means is this mandatory, or supported officially by the United States Air Force Academy or the Air Force, but it is something that we can do as one last parting gift to our state and community before we head off our separate ways. I hope that you will join me and Will in this tradition by putting the same money that you would be spending in your parade cap for graduation into a donation that will provide relief from a pandemic that makes our class historic. We plan on officially donating the money that is raised after our graduation ceremony which is set to take place April 18, 2020.
To the parents and soon to be fellow graduates, if you would like to be a part of this feel free to donate. You have made an enormous impact on our class, and we greatly appreciate you all.
