Organized by Mindful Community Tutors
Mindful Community Tutors help children catch up.
Mindful Community Tutors (MCT) mission is to enhance academic skills and overall well-being by providing free coaching, tutoring and a joyful connection between seniors and children.
Due to the events of the last few years, children, particularly those in under-resourced communities, have missed large amounts of their education and have experienced reduced socialization. Many seniors have felt very lonely and purposeless.
MCT provides both virtual and in-person tutoring, together with positivity and mindfulness training. Our goal is to address the issues of both generations while providing intergenerational joy.
We have had a pilot program running for several months, both virtually and in-person, in an elementary school of the Chicago Public Schools System. There has been very positive feedback from teachers, pupils, parents and tutors. The children have made significant strides in improving test scores and confidence.
OUR ORGANIZATION IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS AND ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BE USED FOR THE DIRECT BENEFIT OF THE CHILDREN WE TUTOR.
Supplies for tutors such as whiteboards, books and little rewards for the children at the end of sessions.
Supplying technology and wi-fi for virtual tutoring for children who have none available.
Online subscriptions for children's education aids such as reading apps.
Providing transportation for tutors to visit schools in-person, as needed.
Offering scholarships for summer school enrichment programs.
Promotional costs of recruiting both senior volunteers and participating schools.
There will also be a very minimal amount of funds allocated to keeping the website running and other necessary administrative expenses.
ANOTHER WAY TO HELP: BECOME A TUTOR!
Besides your financial support, or for those who cannot make a contribution, you may consider becoming one of our tutors! If you, or anyone you know, would like to tutor an elementary school child who has slipped behind academically, please contact us via our website: www.mctutors.org .
- The commitment is only 45 minutes a week and is fully flexible.
- No experience is needed, and you will be under the guidance of a classroom teacher.
- If you wish to tutor virtually, you will need to be able to use Zoom or Google Meet.
- You will be required to complete a questionnaire and pass a background check.
The children will benefit educationally and socially from your support. As a tutor, you will benefit by having connection and purpose. Equally important, the teachers will be grateful for receiving much needed assistance with their students who would benefit from additional one-on-one educational support.
If you would like to donate in honor of someone, please leave this comment after you have completed the checkout process when making your donation, or through your donation receipt.
