Support Recovery for Mountain Pathways Nonprofit School
This week’s storm has caused more damage than many of us have seen in this area. Mountain Pathways is a local, independent, non-profit, teacher-led school and has been in the community for over 40 years. The school serves families with children age 18 months to age 6 supporting a large early childcare need of the community.
We need your help as we try to recover from this flood. Rising floodwaters from our normally friendly creek caused substantial damage to the property.
Because of the damage from the floods and winds, Mountain Pathways will be closed while we further assess the damage and make the necessary repairs. The sooner we can knock out items on our list, the quicker we can resume operations and support our local families who are facing the disaster recovery process of their own homes and neighborhoods.
To reopen, we need to clean up the campus while also making sure we are in compliance with the NC Daycare Commission. Donations will go towards restoring campus while also supporting our staff. Some of the pressing issues that need to be addressed are as follows:
- The fence surrounding our campus has been destroyed. To operate as a full-day childcare center, we need fenced outdoor areas.
- We will need to grade the parking lots as well as all playgrounds. All gravel and mulch has washed away.
- Cleaning up debris on the campus. Removing junk, debris, and silt buildups from stairs, ramps, play structures, etc. Many large items such as a metal building and a truck cab are now in our woods.
- Our well and septic systems must now be inspected and evaluated. We will likely have substantial repairs.
- Water inside both buildings means that we will face as yet unknown repairs to flooring and structural elements.
We are grateful that you are in our larger community. Our hope is that we can band together to get our school up and running as soon as possible.
