NAPAWF Fundraiser
Boston University Uprising stands in solidarity with our AAPI teammates, alumni, and family to condemn the murders in Atlanta and the increase of anti-Asian violence incubated by the xenophobia and racism pervasive in this country. Additionally, we acknowledge that racism against Asian-Americans oftentimes is normalized, overlooked and downplayed. As allies, it is our responsibility to listen to the experiences of AAPI communities and actively reflect on how we may perpetuate their discrimination.
Park Soon Chung, Hyun Jung Grant, Kim Sun Cha, Yue Yong Ae, Daoyou Feng, Xiaojie "Emily" Tan, Delaina Ashley Yaun, Paul Andre Michels lost their lives at the hands of a white supremacist, whose actions were empowered by centuries of anti-Asian racism. The horrific events in Atlanta are a tragic reminder of the sexism, racism and bigotry that still threatens our communities.
As an ultimate team, we are committed to placing racial diversity at the forefront of this sport’s development. We pledge to prioritize inclusion across all racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, religious, and gender backgrounds. Furthermore, we call on the greater ultimate community to place racial equality at the forefront of its development and continue to make the game accessible to all, uplift POC players, and highlight their roles in the strides this sport has taken.
Following the national rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, we will be collecting donations for the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum. The NAPAWF works to “build a movement for social, political, and structural change for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls.” As a women’s team, we recognize the pain caused by the hypersexualization of AAPI women and feel it is important to support and amplify their voices.
Thank you so much for donating to this cause! For more information on how our team will be responding, look for further posts on our stories, Facebook, and by our team members. Additionally, we have updated a LinkTree of resources and actions to take at this time, which can be located in our Instagram bio!
