CAWW2 Veterans Recognition Project
Few people know the role that Chinese Americans played during the Second World War. Although they faced outright discrimination from the Chinese Exclusion Act, nearly 20,000 Chinese Americans served honorably in every branch of the United States military.
CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARDED
On May 4, 2017 bi-partisan legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate (S.1050) and U.S. House of Representatives (H.R.2358) for the passage of the Chinese-American World War II Veteran Congressional Gold Medal Act. On September 12, 2018, S.1050 is passed in the Senate. The U.S. House of Representatives passes the bill on December 12, 2018. The bill was signed into law (Pub. L. 115-337) by President Trump on December 20, 2018.
Now enacted, the U.S. Mint and the Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project works together to design the final medal. Generally the medal design process takes about 6-8 months. We hope to present the final medals to our Veterans in the Fall of 2019.

The Congressional Gold Medal Review Committee is currently reviewing Veteran applicants to award the Congressional Gold Medal. Veterans and their family members can register Veterans on our website. If you submitted an application, you can check to see if your application has been approved on our list of approved Medal recipients. All questions related to the Congressional Gold Medal and the application process should be sent to: [email redacted].
