Navajo Nation in Lockdown: Help NIYLP raise $20,000 for emergency supplies for families in need!
The Navajo Nation has been among the hardest-hit by the COVID virus with some of the highest infection rates in the country. Many of these rural Navajo communities in western New Mexico and McKinley County area only have limited electricity, water and health care services and little or no access to basic supplies. The National Indian Youth Leadership Project works with over 1,000 youth who reside in northwest New Mexico, where schools have been shut down and families have nowhere to turn. There is a desperate need for emergency supplies such as masks, food and toilet paper. NIYLP has a network of people ready and able to distribute supplies to these very isolated communities that are not connected to the main reservation. The New Mexico Foundation has stepped up and made a $5,000 emergency grant to NIYLP and we are seeking to raise at least an additional $20,000 to acquire the desperately needed supplies.
