Did you know that only 4% of the billions of dollars the government spends annually on cancer research is directed toward treating childhood cancer?

We are Vaughn Boyd and Tessa Moulinet, and we are on a mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children battling cancer. With heavy hearts and hopeful spirits, we have decided to launch this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF). Pediatric cancer affects countless families, and the journey can be incredibly challenging for both the young warriors and their loved ones.

Our goal is to support NPCF in their vital work of funding research to find less toxic, more effective treatments for children with cancer. About the BBB Hammer-in

The Bearded Brotherhood of Blacksmiths Hammer-In is open to anyone. Whether you are an experienced bladesmith, or just starting out. The goal is to help raise money for the NPCF, but it is also our hope to bring a variety of makers of various skillsets together in fellowship. The Hammer-In will be a place where we can all learn from each and expand our artistic abilities. Open Forges will be available for folks to play around with fire, hammers, and steel.

A variety of classes will be held:

Gemstone setting for pommels taught by James Worm.

How to Forge Animal Heads taught by Kirk Sullens.

Hand-forged Roses taught by MC Bladesmtihing.

There is a challenge leading up to the weekend, details for that will be shared in the next couple days!!! The Hammer-in will be held in the beautiful pecan groves of North Central Florida, on the property of Underhill's Forge. There will be running water, and Porta-Poties, but otherwise expect to bet self-sufficient. Plan like you would for primitive camping. Campers and Trailers are welcome, but there are no water or power hook ups. Food trucks will be available for lunch only, so plan accordingly.

How it all got started:

In late 2022 and early 2023, over 50 bladesmiths came together to compete in a sword making competition. The blades that survived were to be auctioned off. It was intended for the money to be donated to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. 36 blades survived. These bladesmiths came together, and formed a bond of mutual respect and friendship. Despite the original competition not raising as much money as everyone hoped, many of the participants had a really good time.

Looking forward to 2024, Jacob Underhill, a judge from the competition, decided he would host his own event, in an attempt to raise some part of the money promised. Many of the other bladesmiths felt the same. With the help of the Bearded Brotherhood of Blacksmiths, we are making it happen.

Golden Ribbon, Join the Fight for Remission
September is National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and Histiocytosis Awareness Month. I am a childhood cancer survivor, so each year since 2020, I have given back to the wonderful organizations and communities that helped me throughout my cancer experience.

Remission is the end goal for any cancer patient. It's the place patients are striving and dreaming for. Yet, so many children might never see that day. Only 4% of cancer funding in the US goes towards pediatrics. It’s this 4% that’s been holding back improvements in the field: treatments are outdated, and children suffer. More funding can advance research producing more treatment options, create more resources for children on treatment, generate support options for families of children facing cancer, and most importantly, increase the survival rate. It will get more kids to that dream of remission. For the entirety of September, I will be hosting a fundraiser for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Please consider donating $5 or more to help children all over the country fight their battle towards remission.

I was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis when I was ten years old. I went through multiple surgeries and countless rounds of chemotherapy. Although my doctors and staff were incredibly kind and supportive, constantly being in and out of hospitals and infusion centers was dreadful. I was drained and exhausted for months on end. After 3 years of treatment, I was pronounced cancer-free. I had reached remission. Even after years off-treatment, other cancer survivors and I still struggle with cancer's long-lasting effects on our bodies. I am proud to say, I have been off treatment for 6 years. I celebrate my battle every day, but I recognize not every child is as lucky as I was. Thousands of children are still fighting and will continue to fight because that is their only option. This fundraiser is how I choose to honor those children we’ve lost, children in treatment, and children living life after cancer

Rietter's Grit
Meet Rietter.

This adorable little human was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was around 6 months old.

I met Rietter's parents, Eric and Laura Lynde, while they were searching for a new home. They happened to come through an open house I was hosting one fate-filled Sunday and we've been friends ever since!

Laura was pregnant with Rietter when we first met. Shortly after, she had Rietter, and shortly after that, I decided to completely blow out my ACL playing in a soccer league. They still hadn't found a home yet at this point, but with a brand new baby in tow and me hobbling around on crutches post-op we forged on. Eventually, we closed on their new home (photos of me holding Rietter at the closing table with my crutches in the background courtesy of Attorney Adam Williams ).

Around the same time, Laura and Eric received the news about Rietter having neuroblastoma I was going through rehab on my knee. Since I had to limit high-impact sports, which isn't really my m.o., I had to look for alternative options. So, I started hiking... a lot. Which lead to me backpacking... a lot.

Being an avid backpacker, I follow a number of outdoor/hiking/backpacking pages on Facebook. I noticed a post by the Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail Association about their upcoming 100mi hiking challenge, the objective being to hike the 100mi section of the North Country Trail that passes through the ANF in 50 hrs. Spending nearly all of my hiking/backpacking/camping time in the ANF, I was immediately intrigued.

Bringing it full circle...

Honestly, I often subject myself to things like this anyway, so I started brainstorming on how to bring a greater purpose to this endeavor. As this idea evolved it was an immediately obvious choice to reach out to Laura to see how she felt about trying to raise funds and donate them in Rietter's name to one of the charities closest to them. Obviously, she was on board.

*Fun fact: Their daughter, Frankie, and I also share the same birthday.

Needless to say, we have many things that connect us. The Lynde's are such an incredible family and Rietter is an amazing little warrior. They've all been through so much more than I and probably many of you can imagine. So, here we are!

The Great Loop Challenge
In order to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research, Mr. Scott “Red” Flowers wishes to set a world record for the fastest completion of the Great Loop, a system of waterways that is approximately 6,000 miles long. Red Flowers intends to accomplish this in 30-40 days in a 26-foot, Barker Boatworks, open cockpit boat and set a world record! It is his goal to raise $1,000,000 to donate to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Red Flowers, who will be captaining the trip, is a Stage 4 Melanoma cancer survivor and after seeing children being treated at Shands (Gainsville, FL) and Moffitt (Tampa, F) cancer centers, he knew first hand that much more needs to be done, and he’s out to do it.
