Hello Everybody,
I am Nicholas Scalzo from Boy Scout Troop 155 in North Palm Beach, Florida. I am currently a Life Scout and am working towards achieving the rank of Eagle. I started as a Cub Scout in the third grade and moved up into the Boy Scouts in 5th. Throughout my years as a Boy Scout, I have assisted in many Eagle projects, and finally it is time for me to do mine.
My project is called “Showers for the Navy SEALs”. It is going to be based at the U.S. Navy SEAL Museum in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, where I will be building two outside individual stall showers that will be joined by a common dressing room. This will be replacing the current shower, which is a single stall and in a worn-down condition which is shown below.
This project was started when we, as a troop, went camping at the Navy Seal Museum. While I was there, I noticed that the showers were in an outdated and beat up state. I quickly asked our host, U.S. Navy SEAL Commander Loris Cagnoni, if I could replace the showers as an Eagle Project. It was then that I learned about the upcoming event that the museum had planned.
From October 29 to Nov 9, 2019 the mission for Beyond the Teams, an organization dedicated to help raise funds and awareness for people with physical disabilities, cultural disadvantages and practical needs, is a 1,000-mile bike ride down the East Coast. Five riders, all former SEAL classmates from BUD/S class, will start from the Naval Special Warfare Center in Virginia Beach, VA and finish at the birthplace of Navy Frogmen/SEALs in Ft Pierce, FL and home of the Navy SEAL Museum. After they finish the bike ride, they will be the first ones to use the newly built showers. That day starts the U.S. Navy SEALs Muster, a 3-day event of SEAL exhibitions and music. This is a major event, and thousands will be in attendance.
In order to gain funding to build these showers, I will be offering memorial bricks containing the name of an individual that the donor chooses (for example, a deceased veteran family member, first responder or family member, or someone you wish to honor). These bricks will be obtained with a donation of at least seventy-five dollars. They will be used to line the path to and around the shower. They will be my main form of fundraising for this project, and it will allow the donors to be a part of my project and be memorialized into the Navy SEAL Museum. A photo of the brick is shown below. In order to obtain these bricks, you can donate $75.00 for the first brick and $50.00 for additional bricks and email me at [email redacted] with the name and message you wish to place on the memorial brick. Each brick can contain 4 lines, with 21 characters per line including spaces. I would greatly appreciate donations in any amount, nothing is too small. Any excess funds that I have raised will be donated to the Navy Seal Museum.
Below I have included the mission statement for the museum and for the 1000 mile bike ride. I wish to thank you for your time, and in advance, for your donation. With your help I’ll be able to obtain the rank of Eagle, and your donation will be displayed at a National Navy SEAL Museum. It will also help provide a greatly needed improvement to a national monument.
The National Navy SEAL Museum is the only museum dedicated solely to preserving the history of the United States Navy SEALs and their predecessors. Located in Fort Pierce, Florida, the Museum resides on the training grounds of the original Navy combat divers, the Frogmen. The main objective of the Museum remains the promotion of public education by providing the opportunity to explore the history of the United States Navy SEALs through interactive exhibits, while honoring the fallen at the Navy SEAL Memorial and caring for those warriors’ families through the Trident House Charities Program.
