More information about Nevada Humane Society, Inc.: Nevada Humane Society is a non-profit organization whose lifesaving work is made possible through donations. In 2007, NHS became a no-kill shelter and launched a bold effort to help Washoe County become a no-kill community. In 2014, NHS expanded lifesaving efforts to include Carson City. Today, more than 70,000 animals have been placed into loving homes since 2007 and NHS continues to grow, maintaining its status as one of the top communities in the country for saving homeless pets. Working in partnership with Washoe County Regional Animal Services and a network of rescue organizations, NHS has put Washoe County in the very top tier of communities nationwide for saving homeless pets. Our mission is to care for and find homes for homeless animals, which we accomplish through quality animal care, innovative adoption programs, accessible low-cost spay/neuter services, low-income medical assistance and a free Animal Help Desk. NHS offers a suite of innovative, substantiated programs aimed at forging a robust safety net to arrest the plague of pet abuse, neglect and abandonment and geared toward keeping animals in their loving homes and out of the sheltering system. These programs most importantly save lives but in addition save tax payer dollars and assist families living in poverty within our community. Our organization is dependent upon donations and does not receive funds from government agencies or national animal welfare groups.
