My name is Ingrid Silva, I am a professional ballerina and the Founder of Blacks in Ballet. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I moved to New York City at the age of 18 after being accepted into the Dance Theatre of Harlem. My journey as a dancer has been guided not only by my passion for ballet but also by a deep commitment to representation, equity, and access within the classical arts.
I founded Blacks in Ballet to amplify and celebrate the presence of dancers of color in the global dance community. Through cultural exchanges, mentorship, performances, and educational resources, our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for Black dancers to thrive, connect, and be seen — both on stage and behind the scenes.
In 2025, I am honored to have been invited by the Orsolina28 Art Foundation for a prestigious creative residency as part of their Focus on Creation program.
This initiative celebrates choreographers from around the world who push the boundaries of dance and redefine artistic expression.
From June 22 to July 6, 2025 , I will lead a collaborative project in a fully immersive environment designed to foster creativity, dialogue, and cultural exchange. This residency is not only a milestone in my personal artistic journey, but also a crucial opportunity to uplift Black artistry in ballet on a global scale.
