19 Miles to Fight COVID-19
5/19: 19 Miles To Help Hunger During COVID-19
On 5/19/2020 I was scheduled to walk across the stage at Fordham's 175th Commencement Ceremony to receive my MBA diploma. Instead of walking those 50 steps across the stage in the Bronx, I will be running 19 miles to show my support to the community that got me to where I am today.
COVID-19 has taken away the opportunity from me to walk across the stage, though I still consider myself lucky and grateful. This virus has taken a lot more away from others. It has left many jobless, homeless, hungry, and alone. I am dedicating this run to them.
Many students in our community and communities across the country rely on schools to provide them with a healthy breakfast and lunch. Now that schools are not physically in session, many of those kids are not getting the food that they desperately need. Their families are stretched so thin, now more than ever, they are in need of our support.
I will be lacing up my running shoes to help raise money for an organization that is committed to helping our community by ensuring none of our kids go hungry. Nisky NOW is a program that provides a weekly delivery of food to families of students in need. Due to the virus, this program is more important than ever.
The money raised by this run will be going straight to Nisky NOW to help fund their continued efforts. They provide a week worth of breakfasts and lunches to any Niskayuna School District student that is in need. Every Monday, the organization and volunteers are at Niskayuna High School handing out the week's worth of meals to those in need. Without their support and hard work, many of our students would not be getting the well-balanced meals they deserve and need.
Please help me and show support to this amazing organization. It is times like these that a community needs to stand together and support one another. Niskayuna has been my home and this community has taught me so much - help me ensure that we pass that along to the next set of graduates.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We will get through this.
Much love,
Matt
