Support for Directly Impacted Families
Our all volunteer team is committed to our mission and our community. With your support, we have delivered thousands of meals and various supplies, medications and entertainment/technology options for families with youth. We placed close to 200 individuals in temporary shelter as they were being released from facilities where there were COVID-positive cases, in order to reduce the risk for families and the overall communities. We have gone to an all virtual/no-touch organization but we continue to serve our clients in need. We will continue to help with the cost of hotel stays, masks, personal hygiene items, e-gift cards, gas cards, and other various needs.
***Effective July 1, 2020, there will no longer be a restriction of eligibility for SNAP benefits based on a drug conviction.***
However, effective June 28, 2020, Governor Northam has declined to extend the rent moratorium in our state. Evictions will resume on June 29, 2020. There were 1,900 evictions on file prior to the rent moratorium being lifted. Our focus is now shifting to saving those who have a criminal records from eviction. Why those with a criminal record? Because of all of the collateral consequences of a conviction and the harsh and continuous penalties for a past conviction, if you couple a past record with an eviction, it is near impossible to find suitable housing. I know that times are tough for everyone so if you cannot support financially, please share this fundraiser with your networks and that will mean just as much.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT PROVIDE HOMELESSNESS SERVICES. IF YOU ARE HOMELESS, PLEASE CONTACT THE HOUSING CRISIS LINE AT [phone redacted].***
