NCAD Nutcracker 2020
This past year has been a trying one for everyone, and for those in the arts, it has been devastating. For anyone with a child or grandchild, you understand what it has taken to not only keep businesses afloat, food on the table, but also to keep some sense of normalcy for their lives as well. North County Academy of Dance has been one place in this pandemic that hundreds of children have been able to come to, to continue to stay engaged, active and balanced in the midst of the chaos.
Every year, North County Academy of Dance Association (a 501(c)3 not for profit organization) puts on one of those most beautiful, professional and inspiring productions of The Nutcracker in San Diego County. Each year, the dancers look forward to their new parts, rehearse weekly for hours, and get the experience of what it means to be part of a professional production. And it's not just for the dancers of NCAD, but also for The San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra, who performs live for all of the performances. It is an inspiration to all who witness or participate in it.
This year the production is in jeopardy. Due to the pandemic, NCADA lost their usual venue and the studio has had to make significant adjustments to the production in order to keep the students and audience safe. They are close to finding an alternate venue, and the production is going completely virtual with streamed performances and smaller casts. The dancers have continued to rehearse, keeping the consistency and normalcy in their lives and supporting this valuable community facility.
But all of these adjustments are costing more than they normally would. Renting a new venue, hiring a film crew and streaming equipment, and of course, no hopes of recouping costs with live audience ticket sales.
The bright side of these adjustments is that we will have the opportunity to share this precious offering to those who normally would not have the chance to see it.
Please help us keep the spirit of the season alive and the joy of this production happening for the dancers and the studio. Give the gift of the arts to inspire us through these challenging times.
Please consider donating and helping us reach our goal.
