Rebecca Staffel is fundraising
Support RADIOHEART: Donations are tax-deductible!
Why are you fundraising and how will you use the funds?
To pay for a Kevin-worthy soundtrack.
What started as a 40-minute film is now a full-length documentary.
Supporters have been generous! Through separate fundraising efforts, we’ve raised enough to pay the film’s crew and production and promotional costs. Paying for the music is our last financial hurdle.
So, my donation would pay for the soundtrack?
Yes. Music is the heart, soul, and backbone of the film. You can’t tell a story about this man without including the music he helped us discover. You’ll fund licensing for a killer soundtrack while supporting the artists you love.
What’s the film about?
RADIOHEART: The Drive and Times of Kevin Cole celebrates Kevin’s 50 years in music: both his passion for sharing it and the global community he helped to create. His is an exceptional, inspirational story of how music heals and how much music matters.
Tell me more!
While music is the throughline in Kevin’s life, his has been a long and winding road. RADIOHEART examines obsession, addiction, sobriety, depression, running, veganism, social activism, community mental health, and, of course, that purple guitar-playing artist from Minneapolis formerly known as the “artist formerly known as.”
Wow! Do you have a big-picture goal?
We do! To create a moving, inspiring, riveting, and entertaining documentary that tells Kevin’s story and celebrates KEXP.
What will success look like?
Giving as many people as possible the chance to bask in Kevin’s glow. Our achievable dream: 150,000 viewers. (That’s 300,000 individual eyeballs!) Many more would be much merrier.
We’ll submit RADIOHEART to top-tier U.S. and international film festivals and will turn cartwheels if we’re accepted by several.
We’ll expand our audience by pursuing distribution from the usual and not-so-usual suspects and being picked up by one—or more—of them would pin the “success!” needle.
It sounds like you’ve done a lot already.
How is the film going?
RADIOHEART is in production in Seattle, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, New York, and Reykjavik. In addition to interviews, we will include archival footage, photos, and ephemera. Because the documentary is about a life spent in music, the soundtrack must be exceptional. We know you want to hear the bands and music that Kevin helped shine a light on and that have colored his life. We’re working hard to find and interview the best of them.
Who else is in it besides Kevin?
We’ve secured interviews with Jessica Dobson, Stone Gossard, Kristin Hersh, Megan Jasper, Andy Jassy, Peter Jesperson, Steve McClellan, Mike McCready, Bob Mould, Nanna and Raggi from Of Monsters and Men, Charina Pitzel, John Richards, and Eva Walker. Plus many more musicians and folks you’re sure to know are being asked even as we type.
Where will RADIOHEART be shown?
We intend to premiere RADIOHEART as part of the 2025-26 film festival season. The potential of “where” gives us goosebumps.
Who’s making this film?
RADIOHEART is directed and produced by Seattle filmmaker Peter Hilgendorf. RADIOHEART producers include Susan Benson, Jennifer Cast, Eric Kassel, Paul Breslin, and Rebecca Staffel.
Are donations really tax-deductible?
Yes. RADIOHEART is supported by a fiscal sponsorship with the Northwest Film Forum, granting it nonprofit status.
What’s in it for me?
First and foremost, our everlasting gratitude. Plus, the heartwarming feeling that comes from supporting independent filmmakers and musicians. Last but certainly not least, you'll bask in the glow of showing your love for world-changing DJ Kevin Cole.
Will I get merch? Or a thank you?
We’d like to tell you that we’ll thank you in the film credits, but that goes against the GoFundMe rules.
“No raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or returns on investment are offered in exchange for any donations made to this GoFundMe.”
We’d never break the rules. ;)
