Teresa Lynn Webb dedicated her life to helping others and spreading her love to everyone she encountered. She was the light in so many lives. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, aunt, teacher, and friend.

Teresa tragically left us on January 26, 2020, but her light will remain with us forever. Teresa's greatest joy in life came from impacting the lives of children. She worked at the Ocean Institute as an instructor and spent her days teaching kids about the amazing wonders of the ocean and our planet. The ocean was her sanctuary. 

We have felt the outpour of love and support from so many people. We know she would want to continue to make an impact. Everyone has been asking us what they can do, so we felt that giving to this amazing non-profit is exactly what she would want. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in honor of such a beautiful soul.

The Ocean Institute, nestled between the Dana Point Harbor and the Pacific Ocean in Southern California’s City of Dana Point, inspires nearly 100,000 students and public visitors annually with its mission of using the ocean as the classroom to inspire children and families to learn.  Serving the broad community since 1977, the Ocean Institute is home to brig Pilgrim, known throughout the world as a reproduction of the ship made famous by Dana Point’s namesake, Richard Henry Dana Jr., in his classic narrative of life at sea, Two Years Before The Mast.

Since 1981, the Ocean Institute has showcased Pilgrim as a unique and effective floating educational platform for learners of all ages.  Over 300,000 K-12 students from all walks of life have had the opportunity to step back in time and live the life of a sailor in the 1830s. Students spend the night on Pilgrim participating in a powerful, hands-on program where they master crucial leadership, critical-thinking, and teamwork skills and experience history well beyond the four walls of any on-land classroom.

Today, Pilgrim and her life-changing programs need your help. Her hull is nearly 75 years old and is in peril.  This spectacular vessel is truly showing her age.  In an effort to sustain the ship’s unmatched impact on education as the most unique classroom in California, we must get her out of the water for experts to assess what next steps are critically needed to save her life.
