Hi! My name is Nina Zheng and I am an international student coming from Jamaica attending Nova Southeastern University in the Razors Edge Global Program. I want to make a difference in our ocean life. Imagine the vast, shimmering expanse of the ocean, once teeming with life—whales breaching through the waves, schools of fish glittering like stars, and coral reefs alive with color and movement. Now picture it fading, suffocating under the weight of plastic pollution and toxins. Sea turtles, once symbols of resilience, choke on discarded bags, mistaking them for jellyfish. Majestic dolphins wash ashore, their lifeless bodies filled with microplastics they couldn’t avoid. The symphony of the ocean is silenced by our actions, as coral reefs the vibrant rainforests of the sea turn ghostly white, unable to survive in the warming waters. The ocean is dying, and with it, the creatures that have called it home for millions of years. Each passing day, the heartbeat of the sea grows weaker, and if we don’t act, this beautiful world beneath the waves will be lost forever, leaving nothing but silence where life once thrived. Coming from an island where beaches and the ocean is a big thing, it hurts for me to see over tourism and overall recklessness destroy them little by little. Especially, these days we've been getting many hurricanes, the coral reefs that the Hurricanes can cause severe physical damage to coral reefs through strong winds and turbulent waters. The force of the waves can break coral structures, uproot them, and create sediment clouds that block sunlight essential for coral photosynthesis. In addition to the mangroves and coastal ecosystems: The intense winds and storm surges can uproot mangrove trees and destroy coastal habitats, which serve as crucial nurseries for many marine species.

We’re students at the University of North Texas, and we’re coming together to support a cause that impacts millions of people worldwide—ocean conservation. However, these critical ecosystems are under severe threat due to overfishing, pollution, and climate change. Right now, over 90% of global fish stocks are either fully exploited or overfished, putting entire species at risk and threatening the food security of coastal communities.

Additionally, an estimated 11 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans each year, harming marine life and disrupting delicate ecosystems. Climate change is also causing rising ocean temperatures and acidification, leading to coral bleaching and habitat destruction. That’s why we’re raising money for Oceana, the world’s largest ocean advocacy organization, to support their mission of implementing science-based policies that protect marine life and promote sustainable fishing practices. Your donation, no matter the size, helps push for real change—and even small contributions make a tangible impact. For instance, a $500 donation can fund critical research to support bans on destructive fishing practices, such as bottom trawling, which devastates ocean floors and marine biodiversity. My name is Pia and I'm a prodigy in ocean biology. I am 11 years old and my dream is to become a marine biologist. I want to try to do my best for the ocean.

88% of the ocean is polluted and 78% of the ocean's animals are at risk of choking from trash. And because of global warming, we only have 300 more years until they get cooked alive. In 2050, 90 percent of the population of fish will die. Soon enough, there will be no more pretty beaches unless we help. Hearing and learning about this made it clear that I wanted to raise $8,000 towards saving the seas.

Hello! We are 3 determined middle school girls hoping to make an impact on ocean clean up! We hope to raise at least 100 dollars but anything and everything will be appreciated! All funds will be donated to Oceana, an organization with a goal of saving our oceans. They have already protected 4 million square miles of ocean and hopefully more to come, with your help! We initially got the idea from a school science project and have added our own little twist to hopefully make a difference big or small. Thank you for your devoted passion in our environment.
