We believe that we bring a unique understanding and perspective to the unmet needs of women in the areas of arthritis and degenerative joint disease. WOGO is an Operation Walk team. I have been on a waiting list for volunteers to serve people and have been accepted to be able to serve with this amazing team. Support WOGO's 2025 Medical Mission to Tanzania
We Are Returning to Tanzania!!

Two weeks ago the WOGO pre-trip team traveled to Arusha, Tanzania to meet with the hospital leadership and staff in preparation for our 2025 medical mission.

Tanzania is a beautiful place, and the people are warm and caring. We were so excited to return.

The WOGO team worked at Arusha Lutheran Medical Center (ALMC) in 2014. Tanzania was the site of our third medical mission. We return 11 years later – and we are very excited about this upcoming work.

During our visit we met with ALMC hospital leadership, toured the hospital and discussed patient numbers. There are many key items that need to be agreed upon before our trip.

We also spent some time meeting with the hotel, and testing out some restaurants. Our team will have a few group dinners together, and we want to make sure these meals are special for the group.

Lists are being made of the equipment we need to gather for the trip. Medicines, materials, implants and so much more. Beach balls will be ordered for our patients’ physical therapy support. All the little things that make the trip run smoothly. Then we will pack up and ship out our 9000 pounds of cargo so that it arrives in Tanzania before we do.

We are in need of many items for the trip, some of which we need to purchase. If you’d like to help us with these items, the cost of shipping and travel you can donate directly to WOGO online or using Venmo at @WOGO-Missions.

Dear family, friends and coworkers,

I am so excited to share this great news of mine to you! I am very delighted that I am offered to be a volunteer of Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach (WOGO). I will join their Operation Walk 2022.

WOGO was first established by five female orthopaedic surgeons in 2006, and they successfully completed their first Operation Walk in Nepal 2009. Over the years, WOGO has not only provided numerous orthopaedic surgeries worldwide, but has also been involved in local surgeon educational programs and provide community service in many underserved communities internationally. Their mission is to empower, educate and engage women in developing countries globally.

Now I am proud to be a part of this team and am ready to put in all my effort to reach out and spread the word of WOGO. I have made this fundraiser for WOGO as my holiday wish, my birthday dream and a new year’s goal. Big or small, I know your donation will support us in bringing more supplies, equipment and medications that are very much needed to our mission 2022. Your donation will go directly to the organization. You CAN help us to make a difference in someone’s life, enable him or her to do something most of us are all able to do without much effort, to WALK again. In January 2020, I will be joining WOGO in Bolivia to provide pro-bono total knee replacements in an underserved community. While knee replacements are common and easy to get for us in the United States, it is a rare and difficult procedure for patients and their providers in many under-served communities. New Knees for the Congo
Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach (WOGO) will be traveling to the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo in July 2016. It will be the team’s fourth medical mission. www.wogo.org

WOGO is a group of 6 female orthopaedic surgeons who lead the team and perform the joint replacement surgeries during our trips. Tirelessly working on pre-trip logistics and traveling with the surgeons is a 50-plus team of volunteer medical professionals that includes:
Anesthesiologists, Internal Medicine Physicians, Physician Assistants, Surgical Technicians, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Implant Representatives, Team Leaders, Volunteers, Students and Interpreters.

The surgeons and the support team will spend a week in Kinshasa. All knee replacement surgeries will be performed during the first few days of the trip to ensure that the WOGO team is on hand to monitor outcomes. The goal is to perform as many joint reconstruction surgeries, as time, and donations allow. For patients, the surgical procedure involves pre and post operative patient education and a two-to-four day stay in the hospital.

Rehabilitation is the focus of the latter part of the week. Physical Therapists conduct classes for patients and their families teaching and demonstrating safe techniques. Local physical therapists are trained on how to continue to assist patients with the rehabilitation process for these patients after the Team has returned to the United States.

The cost of bringing a full medical team of 50 people to the Congo is very high. Flights, lodging, ground transportation, feeding the team is all expensive. The surgeons and team members all donate their time and often take their vacation time to travel with WOGO. The team works extraordinarily hard to raise funding for the trips but we need your help.
