Lila's Mitzvah Project - Help Orangutans
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Orangutan Foundation International, and any donation will help make an impact. I have been fascinated by Orangutans since 3rd grade. The deforestation of their homes, has been devastating for these advanced, highly intelligent and empathetic animals. They need our help as they don't have a voice of their own. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

More information about Orangutan Foundation International: Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of wild orangutans and their rainforest habitat. OFI also supports research on orangutans and forests, education initiatives, both local and international, and brings awareness concerning orangutans wherever it can. OFI is profoundly committed to the welfare of all orangutans, whether captive, ex-captive, or wild.

Change the Fate of the Orangutans
Orangutans are like people – they have thoughts, emotions and personalities. And they, like their habitats and co-habitants, are becoming extinct. In fact, there’s less than 40,000 orangutans left on this planet. This is due to the deforestation of its home, the Borneo and Sumatra rainforests cleared by fire, to make room for more palm oil plants.

Taking action against the palm oil issue caters to the future of these majestic creatures and the state of the entire planet. Orangutans are key to the preservation of the forest as well as the other animals that inhabit it. You take one key player out and you lead to the decline of thousands of other species.

The Orangutan Foundation International is a 501(c)3 charity that relies almost entirely on donations from its generous supporters, primarily individuals who care about conservation, the fate of the Earth, and the welfare of animals. OFI relies on its supporters to continue its important work protecting wild orangutan populations, rain forests, and wildlife in Indonesia, especially Borneo.

"OFI supports the conservation, protection, and understanding of orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Borneo, while caring for and rehabilitating ex-captive orangutans for release back into the wild. Our work includes: orangutan rescue, rehabilitation, and repatriation; habitat protection, acquisition, and restoration; and conservation outreach, education, and scientific research. We have protected 1.5 million acres of rainforest habitat, and saved hundreds of captive and orphaned orangutans from death or a dire life in captivity-giving them a second in the wild. OFI works in cooperation with the Indonesian government and communities in Borneo to expand national parks, establish reserves, buy and safeguard land, and replant degraded forest areas to create permanently-protected orangutan habitat. We raise awareness about the plight of orangutans and other wildlife species through local and global outreach and education programs."

About Orangutan Foundation International

Established in 1986 by Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas, OFI’s mission is to support the conservation, protection, and understanding of orangutans and their rainforest habitat while caring for wild-born, ex-captive orangutan orphans as they make their way back to the forest. OFI is dedicated to ensuring the survival of biologically-viable orangutan populations in the wild and safeguarding the welfare of orangutans wherever they are found. Our field work takes place in Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo and involves a multi-pronged approach, including: (1) animal rescue, sanctuary, rehabilitation, repatriation and protection; (2) conservation education; (3) orangutan research; and (4) habitat protection, acquisition and restoration. In order to preserve forest ecosystems we empower local communities in Borneo through economic development and education initiatives. We raise awareness of orangutan and forest issues throughout the world through field research, the publication of books, scientific reports, articles, and newsletters, as well as lectures, conferences, events, workshops, and seminars.
