The Texas longhorn and the American Cowboy are two of the most enduring symbols of the old west, they are a big reason why Fort Worth earned the nickname "Cowtown". Today, the romance & mystique of the cattle drive era is alive through the Fort Worth Herd, the world's only twice daily cattle drive.
Equipped with a diverse group of cowboys, authentic clothing, period tack, and 22 majestic Texas longhorns, the Fort Worth Herd makes its way down East Exchange Avenue twice daily in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards for over 700,000 visitors each year.
In addition to being a driving force in tourism, the Fort Worth Herd has equal value as an educational tool for the over 18,000 school children who learn about history, economics, and finance rooted in Fort Worth's cattle industry through the Fort Worth Herd education program.
The “Friends of the Fort Worth Herd” (FOFWH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, directedby a volunteer board and committed to providing critical monetary, in-kind, and volunteer support to the Fort Worth Herd program. The funds raised through “Friends of the Fort Worth Herd” help to ensure that the Fort Worth Herd continues to be one of the single most recognizable symbols of the City of Fort Worth and an irreplaceable icon of Fort Worth’s rich history and extraordinary present.
