After being badly damaged by hurricane Maria, the island of Vieques remains without power or water (except temporary water supplies). Food and fuel supplies are minimal. Vieques is running out of everything. Cell towers are down with the exception of a temporary tower (now under construction) with very limited communication.
A small island with a population of 9500 US citizen’s located 8 miles off the southeastern coast of Puerto Rico (PR), Vieques is entirely dependent on the main island for supplies, fuel, food and even water (which is piped under the sea from the El Yunque rain forest).
Until recently very limited help has been focused on Vieques.
Last week Robin and Scott Horty (who own a home on the island) met with Elizabeth McLellan, the dynamic founder and director of Partners for World Health, in Portland Maine (www.partnersforworldhealth.org) to discuss shipping down a 40 foot container of medical supplies and equipment with a value of $150,000-$250,000. Partners for World Health is very generously donating the medical supplies and equipment.
Our goal is to raise the cost of purchasing a container, (which will then be donated to the hospital for the safe storage of supplies), shipping the container to San Juan, delivery of the container to Vieques once it arrives in San Juan and associated fees and tariffs. Additional costs include the processing, handling, packing and list creation of the contents (a total of $25,000). While raising the money we are working simultaneously on the logistics of getting the container to the hospital and clinics on Vieques.

We encourage you to donate to this important cause for the only hospital on Vieques which has limited medical supplies and equipment.
Partners for World Health collects medical supplies and equipment from healthcare facilities, manufacturers, other organizations, and individuals. We sort, evaluate, repackage, and prepare these supplies and equipment for distribution to individuals, communities, and healthcare facilities in need. Our work limits the impact on the environment by diverting discarded materials from landfills and provides needed health care resources to the developing world. PWH aims to improve health conditions by sending medical personnel on medical missions to developing countries and educating New England communities about global health issues.
