It’s that time of year again… As most of you know I was engaged to an amazing man who tragically passed away in an accident on October 9th, 2008. George was the type of guy who would take his shirt off his back to help another person. He was the kindest, funniest, and most wonderful man I ever met. He was a volunteer firefighter, paramedic and an all around superhero. To honor him and his incredibly generous and altruistic nature, money is raised each October to help someone in need. Each year I look for a special organization to contribute to. The problem is that there are too many! But without fail, each year, right before I am deciding... I hear an incredible story about an unbelievable organization that does extraordinary work.
This year I am honored to be raising money for Patient AirLift Services (PALS.)
One of my dear friends has been suffering from a very complicated cancer for 5 years. She was receiving treatment at Sloan Kettering in NYC, but was not able to get medical transport back to her home in Florida. Thankfully she is now cancer free but is still dealing with wound care and other residual issues which prevented her from traveling on conventional transportation. The situation became more serious when she needed to get home to her disabled son in Florida but had literally no way to get back because to the lack of medical transportation options.
PALS was able to arrange a private flight so that she could get home comfortably and safely and they also allowed her daughter to accompany her. Without their help she would not have been able to get home.
PALS assists with providing free flights to those who must travel to receive life sustaining treatment. Their mission saves lives and allows patients and their families to focus on their health without financial or logistic burdens. PALS also arranges volunteer flights for family members of patients as compassionate missions to ensure patients have support when they are away from home for long periods of time. PALS is also proud to assist military personnel and their families with free flights to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation processes for our wounded veterans. This organization has a history of supporting humanitarian efforts in the event of natural or man-made disasters and it gives back to veterans who have sacrificed for our country.
PALS is an amazing organization that impacts so many lives on a daily basis. I have seen the impact of PALS first hand and I am proud to be supporting this organization.
Thank you so much for keeping George’s memory alive by donating to this fundraiser. It will provide so much help for people in need.
