This is Hulk, and he is a recently retired working canine. Hulk had a wonderful 6.5-year career working as an Explosive Detection Canine at Dulles International Airport for TSA. During the course of his career, Hulk helped screen over 100,000 passengers and clear over 1,000,000 lbs of cargo and luggage. Hulk was also entrusted with helping secure venues and protecting the public at several high-profile events to include the 2021 Inauguration, Super Bowl LVI, the 2023 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, 149th and 150th Kentucky Derby. While Hulk has spent nearly his entire life working to help and protect the public, he now needs your help.
When Hulk was actively working, he had all his medical bills paid for by the government, but now that he is retired, that cost is now put on his handler who has adopted and now owns him. However, due to their physical workload and exposure to dangerous chemicals, working K9's often suffer from higher rates of cancer and physical ailments like arthritis and degenerative disc disease which results in more expensive veterinary bills. Luckily, there is a charity, Paws of Honor, whose goal is to provide veterinary care and products at no charge for retired military and law enforcement canines.
That being said, there is currently a wait list for new K9 applicants that could take over a year before they are accepted. However, a new K9 can circumvent this wait list with a sponsorship. In Paws of Honor's own words found on their website: "For a total of $2,500, this sponsorship opportunity will not only enable us to immediately accept a new K9 into our program – for the rest of its life – but it will also provide a meaningful impact on the overall stability and longevity of the program." And this is now where Hulk could use your help. With every donation made, Hulk gets closer to that $2,500 sponsorship that will not only ensure that his medical expenses are covered for the rest of his life but will also help sustain Paws of Honor so that they can continue to help other K9's moving forward.
