Tonight retired K-9 Grizzly is undergoing emergency surgery to remove a mass in his abdomen. K-9 Grizzly is an 8 year old Dutch Shepherd & he honorably served with the Alameda County Sheriff's K-9 Unit until his retirement in February of this year. During his time on duty he helped to apprehend numerous dangerous suspects and worked tirelessly to keep his community safe. K-9 Grizzly also loved getting out in the community & was a star doing demos at schools and at the annual Bay Area Pet Fair.
In retirement he loves a good game of tug with his handler, playing with the two little human siblings he has at home and hanging out with his canine friend Tillee. When he is really good he gets a hamburger patty as a reward! Yum!!
As most do not know, all veterinary costs for retired K-9s are the responsibility of their handler & family. With that being said, Cover Your K-9 is raising funds to help offset Grizzly's emergency care costs. He is good hands with the staff at Ironhorse Vet Care Emergency Hospital in Dublin and we will keep you updated on his progress. We are hoping that he can be back to playing with the kids & eating hamburgers soon. We want to do everything that we can to help K-9 Grizzly get through this and appreciate your help and generosity.


More information about Police and Working K-9 Foundation: The Cover Your K-9 Fund is a project of the Police and Working K-9 Foundation, a non-profit all volunteer organization working to keep California law enforcement K-9 teams covered with safety equipment and emergency medical care. The Cover Your K-9 Fund provides K9 bullet-proof vests, heat alarms for patrol cars & has worked with veterinary specialists to design a K-9 Emergency Medical Course & custom K-9 Trauma Kit. It has been a scary week for retired K-9 Eliot. He was rushed to the emergency vet while having multiple seizures and suffering from the side effects. It was not known if there could be a brain tumor or other underlying issue and the vet recommended immediate testing to diagnose his condition with a neurologist. Yesterday (5/11/21), Eliot was seen and went through several testing, which included the following: blood work, brain MRI, spinal tap, chest/abdominal x-rays, staging before anesthesia, medication to go home, radiology report, fluids, and IV catheter. Eliot was diagnosed with "Idiopathic Epilepsy: late stage" and is now on medication to help prevent future seizures. We are hoping to give him the best chance possible to continue a comfortable retirement.

K-9 Eliot Bohemia Bells served over 7 years with the Newark Police Department (CA) as a patrol K9. Eliot was trained in apprehension, narcotics, and tracking. Eliot spent thousands of hours training to keep his proficiency in order to serve the community. Eliot always put his life on the line when it came down to apprehending suspects without hesitation and never backing down; even when a suspect was attempting to gouge out his eyes. Not many K9s can go from a high drive and stressful environment at work to a calm and gentle demeanor with his cats at home. Eliot is loved by many and is not just seen as a retired working dog, but is family.

It is our turn to help support K9 Eliot. Police dogs are selfless and would give the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect and serve. They are owed a great retirement with their families after their years of service. When Eliot honorably retired, his handler purchased him from the city for $1. Thus, all financial responsibility falls on the family from then forward. It's time for the community to give back to Eliot for his fearless and courageous acts of service on the front line.

Retired K-9 Eliot is improving and the cost for Eliot's vet bill is $5,667, which includes his medication to go home. The Police and Working K-9 Foundation has donated $1,000. from their Cover Your K-9 Retired K-9 Care Fund leaving a balance of $4,667. The goal is to raise $4,600 to help K9 Eliot and any amount to pitch in and help would be greatly appreciated.

We appreciate everyone's donation towards K9 Eliot and hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. Eliot is turning 12 this June and we are hoping to spend as long as possible with him and will do whatever it takes to ensure his health and happiness, because he is family.

NOTE: If we surpass our goal amount the extra funds will be donated to retired K9s in need.

Retired K-9 Jarrdo had emergency surgery yesterday to save his life and we need your help. He suffered from a gastrointestinal blockage and was rushed to the hospital. The surgeon was able to successfully clear the blockage and Jarrdo is currently in the hospital recovering. If he does better and starts to eat this afternoon, he may be able to go home with his long-time handler this evening.

K-9 Jarrdo von haus Tyson served with the Fremont Police Department as a patrol and narcotics detection K-9 for over 5 years and retired in 2015. During his time on duty he helped to take many dangerous suspects off the streets and worked hard to keep the Fremont and the surrounding communities safe. He was also accomplished off the streets & took 1st place overall at the Contra Costa County SERT competition in year that he retired. K-9 Jarrdo also spent many hundreds of hours educating school children and members of the community on the value of the work that police K-9s perform in protecting their communities. He is greatly loved by his community (& is quite a handsome sable German Shepherd Dog too!).

It is our turn to help support K-9 Jarrdo in his hour of need after his many years of service. These dogs live an active life as police K-9s and go through rigorous training and experiences as a working dog. They are owed a great retirement after their years of tough but rewarding work protecting us. When a K-9 retires, they go home to live with their handler & all financial responsibility for veterinary care falls to their long time partner.

The goal is to raise $7,700 to help K-9 Jarrdo. Estimated costs for Jarrdo's surgery and follow up care is $8,700. The Police & Working K-9 Foundation's Cover Your K-9 Retired K9 Care Fund has already donated $1,000.

We know that these are trying times for everyone & appreciate your help with K-9 Jarrdo's care. K-9 Jarrdo is now 10 years old and we are hoping that he will have several more years of retirement to enjoy.

Retired K-9 Byoo is fighting for his life in a veterinary hospital following emergency surgery for mesenteric torsion. We need help with both prayers as well as any amount large or small that you can contribute to his care. K-9 Byoo was enjoying a vacation in the snow with his family when he became very ill. He was seen at a Lake Taho local vet who felt that he needed immediate surgery & he was then rushed the a veterinary hospital in Reno. He is currently in surgery and will possibly require another surgery & additional critical care for up to a week.


9 year old K-9 Byoo & his partner served the citizens of San Jose & the SF Bay Area for 8 years as a member of the San Jose PD K-9 Unit. He helped to take many bad guys & drugs off of the streets and also was a favorite with many community groups & schools. K-9 Byoo just retired in the fall and we need your help to make sure that he can make it through this ordeal & enjoy the retirement that he very much deserves.


All donations are tax deductible and any amount raised above the amount needed for his care will be held in a fund for the future care of K9 Byoo & his fellow retired San Jose PD K9 team members.

From a family of working Search and Rescue dogs, Zeffe was more than a beautiful German shepherd dog, she also assisted her owner, a dog trainer, in calming clients with behavior problems. She was gentle enough to find and protect lost lambs and herded sheep, goats, and ducks.

In early February while enjoying a run in a favorite meadow with her best friend, she tragically fell 20 feet into a hidden culvert access hole that was missing its cover. Firefighters from Elk Grove and Cosumnes Fire Districts responded to assist her owner in trying to rescue her but were unable to revive her, leaving both her owner and best friend devastated.

The Fire Captain told her owner that Zeffe likely had rescued them, since they often had to fight fires in this area and one of them could easily have fallen into the concealed hazard, and would not have survived.

To honor this special dog, Zeffe’s many admirers are banding together to help provide 30 essential life-saving pet oxygen masks, to be known as ‘Zeffe Masks’ to fire and rescue crews in her area. These kits will be provided to all their engines so that first responders may administer oxygen to pets which have inhaled lethal smoke or gases.

The Pet Oxygen Mask Kits & the educational materials are $95 each. Please join us in honoring Zeffe’s memory by providing life-saving pet oxygen masks so that during a fire emergency, another animal may have the chance of life in the future.

K-9 Jax  (12/13/2013 – 10/31/2017)

Here at Adobe Animal Hospital, we have the privilege of caring for some of the many brave canines who work with local law enforcement. K-9 Jax, a member of the Canine Unit at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, was one such dog. For two years, K-9 Jax worked to protect his handlers and the public, and last month he gave his life in the line of duty. Attempting to subdue an armed suspect, K-9Jax was severely wounded, and he died here at Adobe despite our efforts to save him. 

In honor of K-9 Jax, his handler Officer Stephen Eckford, and the other members of the Sunnyvale DPS Canine Unit, we are collecting donations to support long-term medical care for retired members of the canine unit, and other critical needs for this team.
