Brandi Tuck, Path Home
CNN Heroes 2023
Oregon has the country’s highest percentage of unsheltered homeless families with children – living in tents, cars, or on the streets. Brandi Tuck has dedicated her life to helping these families -- a calling she found by accident in college. Instead of going to the beach for spring break, she reluctantly volunteered at a homeless shelter with her friends, and the experience changed her life. Today, her nonprofit, Path Home, runs the state’s first shelter built with ‘trauma-informed’ design – an innovative, calming, restorative space that enables families to heal from the trauma of homelessness while they’re helped to find permanent housing. Since 2008, her group has provided shelter, services, and support to more than 10,000 parents and children in Portland.
