Power in the Pen Writing Workshop

We are a nonprofit business dedicated to supporting writers of color, especially residents of Brownsville, Brooklyn to tell their stories of triumph. Since Feb 1st, 2016, over fifty writers and storytellers have graced the doors of Brownsville Heritage House, climbed to the 2nd floor, sometimes after traveling 2 hours from the Bronx or New Jersey or from just across the street and entered our free, loving, safe space to share their miraculous stories. Delighted, inspired, and often moved to tears while listening, an unexpected bond has grown among strangers. We have become a family as well as a literary community. We’ve woven a needed place to hold space for one another as we share our history, pen our legacies, and hopefully inspire many others to do the same.

Every June we showcase our authors and publish our annual anthology of our literary works. Additionally, throughout the year. We also hold a weekly writing workshop online and in person at Brownsville Heritage House from 11 am - 2 pm with authors from all over the country. Once each author has completed the literary work, we assist in publishing the work as well. To date, we have published five anthologies, three novels, and a memoir. Help us continue this amazing work.
