Throughout the last few months, we had 4 cats that needed emergency vet appointments that we were not prepared for. Here is our story:
Millie- she came to us over two weeks ago with a partial left back leg. She was out in our community scared and no one could catch her. Our volunteer happened to be on a walk and was finally able to catch her. We then rushed her to our vet and at that point, they started all necessary treatments. Millie ended up having the leg amputated off at the hip bone. She had stitches from the back of her tail, around her hip to her groin. She is amazingly in good spirts and is such a sweetheart. She is coming back to our shelter on 12/6. More visits will need to be scheduled to make sure she is on the right healing path.
Henry- he came to us as a stray found in our community. He had a weird cloudy eye, tons of scabs from cuts trying to heal, and a lump on his neck. We made a vet appointment and it turns out, he has an ulcer in his eye that went untreated. He sill need to have the complete socket removed and his eye permanently sealed shut. The bump on his neck was from an injury he incurred at some point and when it healed, a bunch of his fur was inside of it. He currently is sporting a cone that he hates and a button above his eye to hold the third eye lid up for it is over his eyeball. He will have more appointments for his eye and then his surgery.
Ben- he came to us as a stray from our community. He wasn't walking on his leg and seemed in a lot of pain. We brought him to our vet and we found out at some point in his life, he got into a fight, got bit, and ended up with cellulitis in his leg. He was running a fever and was in pain. He came back with meds and seems to be getting a little better. He still isn't walking much and another appointment will need to be made for a follow up.
Ernie- we had a fundraiser for him a few months ago. He was back and forth with two vets to see if he had kidney failure. He had an appointment on 12-5 and his numbers remained the same. He is still to be on kidney wet and hard food. He did gain some weight and will have another blood draw and check up in 6 months. We get all of his kidney food from our vet in the meantime for him.
We are reaching out to you, our extended community, for support in raising funds to provide Millie, Ernie, Henry, and Ben, with the necessary medical care, surgery, and ongoing medications required to fight their medical issues. Your contributions will not only help alleviate the financial strain of our shelter but also give all four of them a fighting chance to continue on with a life they deserve.
Precious Paws Humane Society of Chisholm is a donation and fundraiser based shelter. We are not owned by the city and only receive funds of $50 per animal brought to us by the Chisholm, Keewatin, and Nashwauk police. We are a professionally managed volunteer and no-kill shelter.
Our mission is to prevent and alleviate animal suffering through shelter, adoption, education, and community outreach; to support the enforcement of animal welfare laws and state statutes; and to strengthen the human/animal bond.
Any and all shares and monetary donations will help and go toward their medical bills. We appreciate your support!
