2024 TOP 5 CNN HERO

The Elevate Prize Foundation will be matching donations to all of the 2024 Top 5 CNN Heroes up to $50,000 per hero. The names of non-anonymous donors and their donation amounts may be published on air during CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute.

While working as an attorney representing immigrant children, Rachel Rutter saw the severe gap between legal and social services that her young clients faced. There was a lack of basic needs like food, housing, medical care, and mental health support. So, in 2015, Rachel formed her own nonprofit, Project Libertad, to fill those gaps of need, provide free legal representation, and give social, emotional, and academic support to help migrant youth heal from trauma and build new lives. The organization has since helped more than 1,100 individuals, representing more than 90 children in immigration cases.

One of our local Brazilian families lost everything in a brutal house fire in Royersford this week. They escaped with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and at least one family member suffered burns. Please consider donating to help this family of six -- including three young children ages 10, 7, and 3 -- get back on their feet!

All donations will go directly to this family for costs such as food, clothing, temporary housing, furniture, and more.

Any donations beyond the goal amount will either go to this family if needed, or support our regular work with immigrant youth.

We need your help to prevent the eviction a rent-insecure family that includes three of our youth clients!

A few weeks before Christmas, one of our clients let us know that they and their family members had lost their jobs and were struggling to find employment. As is often the case with our young adult clients, these youth had been working in seasonal roles, and employment opportunities were scarce during the holiday season. As a result, the family fell behind on their rent payments.

Our Project Libertad Case Manager Olivia is working hard with this family to establish a long-term solution to their housing issue. We have a goal of $3,600, and Project Libertad will match whatever is raised up to the $3,600! Any additional funds raised beyond the $3,600 will support our work with immigrant youth.
