Prospect Park Track Club, Inc.

Our community has seemed noticeably less bright since the recent and tragic loss of Michael Koplin.  He was an esteemed member who lead the club as a member of the board, served as coach, mentor and friend to so many of us.  The amount of joy and positivity that he contributed to our community is immeasurable and his absence will be felt by so many of us for years to come.

We're searching for ways to honor his legacy and create reminders of the extraordinary life that he lead.  Staying active and running in the park became one of the things that constantly brought him joy.  We're raising funds to dedicate a park bench in his memory to ensure that he'll always have a place there.

At the request of Michael's son, please note that any amount that exceeds the initial funding goal will be allocated to the PPTC Grants Committee.  The team will carefully determine how best to invest that back into the community to honor Michael's memory.

In light of everything that's happening, the Prospect Park Track Club continues to explore ways that we can support our greater community.
PPTC is raising money to benefit various groups that positively affect our community.

We're currently raising funds for: The Prospect Park Alliance
Given the massive cuts in their budgets due to the pandemic, we'll once again be raising funds for the Prospect Park Alliance.  With all of the social distancing measures set in place, it's become clear that a safe and adequately maintained park is so vital to our well being.

The following organizations will be receiving $1,000 donations from this fund:

The Park Slope Volunteer Ambulance Corps
Much of their efforts have been focused as first responders during the pandemic.  They've supported us in the past by providing ambulance and medical services at all of our club races..  We're looking to return that support and contribute much needed funds for their efforts as we deal with the current emergency.

The Audre Lorde Project
The Audre Lorde Project is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area.

The Prospect Park Alliance
The Alliance was founded in 1987 to help restore Prospect Park after a long period of deterioration and decline. Today, the Alliance provides critical staff and resources that keep the park green and vibrant for the diverse communities that call Brooklyn home.

Black Lives Matter
Black Lives Matter believe in building community through civic engagement, education and mentorship. Their Vision is to directly impact policies focusing on: criminal justice reform, basic public safety, fair and equal access to education, jobs & infrastructure.
