Rainbow Place Women's Shelter
Hey, I'm Alexandra Linehan, an 11th grader at Maret, and I am fundraising for Rainbow Place Shelter! Rainbow Place offers women in the greater Rockville area protection from brutal winter conditions, as well as home cooked meals, access to personal hygiene facilities, and a strong case management team to help improve their quality of life. In it's 2020-21 season, 93% of Rainbow's guests participated in case management and 67% moved on to more stable housing and employment opportunities. Rainbow has sheltered over 500 women since its founding in 1982.
An important aspect of Rainbow's mission is their constant enforcement and revision of safety measures so their guests feel unconditionally safe, no matter their previous situations. The staff and volunteers at Rainbow also prioritize a sensitive and safe environment regarding mental health and trauma as some women have suffered from abusive homes and relationships that may not be visible from an outside perspective. Rainbow's comforting size and its values set it apart from other larger shelters. Rainbow collaborates with many community organizations, and the support and positive feedback it has received from the community and local government has allowed the shelter to meet the ever-changing needs of those they serve.
The money raised by this fundraiser will directly help the shelter purchase essential items to care for their guests.
