Protect the Amazon with the #Tree Time Challenge!
We're raising funds to protect the Amazon rainforest and to raise awareness of what's driving deforestation by doing the following:
1. Donate $25 or other amount to the Rainforest Foundation*
AND/OR
Give up eating beef for a month**
THEN
2. Post a photo of yourself on social media with a favorite/memorable tree. This is to make all of us remember just how vital and ubiquitous trees are in all of our lives (like family, we might take them for granted sometimes).
Please remember to link to this GoFundMe page using: http://bit.ly/TreeTimeChallenge
AND reference these hashtags:
#TreeTimeChallenge
#PrayForAmazonia
#DoForAmazonia
AND
3. Publicly challenge three other friends to join you in this cause on social media to keep this going!
*I have done extensive research into all of the different non-profits working to help the Amazon and this one really stood out because:
- It has a 4 out of 4 rating on Charity Navigator
- They have protected more than 33 million acres of rainforest since launch
- They work on-the-ground to secure land rights for indigenous people, strengthening indigenous land security and training indigenous communities to use technology to protect their forests.
**Not eating beef for a whole month = 8,100 gallons of water saved, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and dis-centivizes cattle ranching - the number one driver of deforestation in every Amazon country, accounting for 80% of current deforestation rates.
