We are so excited to announce the Second Annual Race to Light and the Incredible Organization we will be supporting, RESTORE17.

RESTORE17 provides resources and housing to young men in Ecuador. Their mission is to provide physical aid and restorative, Christ-centered care to people in need in Ecuador. Founded by Emily Davidson, a childhood friend of Michaela's, who has done mission work in Ecuador and now lives there full time, we hear the need of these boys and how a little bit of support goes a long way.

History of Race To Light:

On September 27th 2019, Michaela had a dream of Nicole showing up at her house ready to run. She arrived at Michaela's parents house, dressed in black, and said "I'm running to the airport, with or without you!" Michaela quickly threw on her spunky PINK outfit and off they went, running the distance. 

After sharing her dream with Nicole, they both felt a strong calling to take action. With the desire to RUN already stirring in both of their hearts, what started as an idea, turned into a passion to run everyday.  After knowing we wanted to devote our actions towards a good cause, we put action to our words, thoughts, and dreams and RACE to LIGHT was born. We committed to running from Lake Tapps to the Space Needle to raise money for a Non Profit. 

2020 was our first year accomplishing this feat and with God’s grace and our community surrounding us, we were able to raise over $5,000 for ABSOLUTE MINISTRIES.

Now in this Second Year of the Race, we are dedicated and committed to providing overwhelming support to the Restore17 organization in Ecuador. We are confident that this 2021 year will be the best yet!

Hello everyone-

I will start with my goal, and then I’ll explain why I want to do it.

GOAL: To raise $5,000 to hire two specialized tutors to work at an orphanage in Quito, Ecuador for 5-6 months.

WHY: This past September, I went to Quito to work with an orphanage for 3 weeks through an organization called RESTORE17. Because of COVID, all schools are closed in Ecuador and classes are being held through zoom. HOWEVER, due to lack of resources, many of the kids at the orphanage I worked at are not always able to attend their Zoom classes. Teachers are sending massive amounts of weekly homework assignments, but these kids are incapable to do the assignments or understand the material because they are unable to access the lessons online. So, they are falling way behind in their education.

You also encounter children like Sebastian (not his real name). Sebastian grew up in extreme poverty and was never enrolled in school. The result: He is now 14-years-old and unable to read or count. I only found out because we were playing Bingo and he was unable to read the numbers on the Bingo card.

Hiring these tutors will allow these children to understand their homework better, complete assignments, and be better equipped for their future. In addition, these tutors will focus on kids, such as Sebastian, to help them catch up.

Let’s remember that these children are the future of South America. I want to ensure they are given as much opportunity to succeed as you and I have. All proceedings will go directly to RESTORE17 and will be used strictly to hire these tutors.
