Helping the Homeless of RI through COVID-19
Who are we?
We are undergraduate students of providence college, studying towards our bachelor’s degree in the leadership development program. Through story telling we discovered our shared passion for helping lower-income families and those facing homelessness. As a group project the four of us Grace Rodriguez, Mark Garrepy, Jacob Shakleford, and Leo Whitehouse, have come together to help raise awareness for the impressive work the Providence Rescue Mission continues to do in our community. Our mission is to make a positive impact and raise money, so that the Providence Rescue Mission can continue to help our most vulnerable members of society.
What is happening?
Since the Covid 19 out-break, every day we are hearing about confirmed cases, rise in death, threats to our economy, loss of jobs, business closures, and shortage of toilet paper. What is not being broadly covered, is the impact this pandemic is having on the homeless community, and the organizations who directly support them. The Covid 19 Public Health Crisis is sweeping the nation, and now more than ever, the homeless community needs our help. Many of us I have a warm home to quarantine ,the homeless community does not. Many of us have direct access to soap and water to wash our hands, the homeless community does not. Many of us can practice social distancing, the homeless community cannot. Many of us can go to the grocery store and purchases essentials to meet our basic human needs, the homeless community cannot.
What can we do to help?
Despite the circumstances, the staff at the Providence Rescue Mission has continued risking their health, and the health of their families, to continue serving and assisting their members. This is a critical time and as a community we need to co me together and raise awareness. With millions facing unemployment, the number of people seeking shelter and assistance is on the rise. This could be your neighbor, your family
member, a friend, or even you. We are asking you to make a donation to this cause. No matter the amount, all donations are welcome and will be received with love. Any donations will be given directly to PRM. Your contribution can help the Providence Rescue Mission continue to help those experiencing homelessness stay safe.
