Rickwood's Championships Mural Project
In conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Friends of Rickwood organization in 2022, we have several projects we would like completed around the park. One of these projects is to redo the Rickwood's championships mural that adorns the exterior third base wall. This project reflects a longstanding desire to correct some of the years identified as Rickwood Championships on the grandstand, as well as to include some missing titles, which had been obscured in the history of the ballpark. We believe our efforts have been fruitful and the grandstand will now accurately reflect the championship campaigns of the Birmingham Barons, the Birmingham Black Barons, and the Birmingham Athletics.
In determining what clubs and seasons to add to the grandstand we asked a simple question: Did the team win a championship? The championship teams, who are remembered at Rickwood Field either won: a regular season pennant; a first or second half title regular season title; a league playoff series; a postseason interleague series; or any combination of the above.
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Rickwood Field, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. More information about Rickwood Field: The Friends of Rickwood is the non-profit organization responsible for restoration and revitalization of Rickwood Field, America's oldest baseball park.
We handle the day-to-day management and operations of the park, as well as the fundraising, marketing, scheduling, maintenance, and the restoration project itself. We view the park as both a cultural and economic asset for our community, and market it as a destination and dynamic baseball venue.
