We are the ‘Mechanical Magicians', a FIRST Robotics Rookie team, preparing for our trip to the 2023 FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, TX, where we will meet, compete and learn from over 600 teams from across the globe. We are requesting donations of funds to help the team with expenses related to travel and registration costs.
Our journey to the FIRST World Championships started as a dream for a group of students with a passion for STEM. Our team, FRC#9125, was formed with the vision of providing hands-on experience in STEM fields to students of all backgrounds and experiences. Over the past four months, our team of 17 students and a few mentors have put in countless hours of hard work, dedicating their time and effort to designing and building a 4'4" 124lb robot, programmed in Java, appropriate to the game’s challenges and one that is capable of competing with the best teams in the region. We have been fortunate and grateful to have partnered with Robot Garden which operates a hobbyist-friendly non-profit community makerspace / tech organization located at the Livermore Airport.
We competed fiercely at two regional tournaments (San Fransisco & Monterey) and
had the amazing opportunity to form alliances with some of the top teams in the region.
At the SF Regional tournament, we collaborated well with our alliance teams to make it to the semifinals, placing 3rd overall and earning the distinguished Rookie Inspiration Award. This award celebrates a rookie team’s outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers, both within their school, as well as in their community. Through sheer perseverance and determination, we continued our remarkable journey to compete at Monterey Regionals, where the team won the Rookie All-Star Award and secured a coveted spot in the FIRST Robotics World Championships. This prestigious award celebrates a rookie team that exemplifies a young but strong partnership effort and implements FIRST's mission to inspire students to learn more about science and technology.
At the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston, TX, held during the week of April 17th '23, we will be competing against the best robotics teams from around the world, including 600 teams from 137 countries. This is the pinnacle of the FRC competition season, and the atmosphere is electric. We look forward to the opportunity to showcase our robot's abilities and compete in a series of matches. The competition is fierce, but we're supercharged and ready to take on the challenge. We hope to return with memories to last a lifetime, filled with dreams for successful careers in engineering and innovation and renewed inspiration for sustaining the team in the future years.
Your donation will help us cover the costs of the competition registration fee ($5000), robot transportation cost ($1500), team travel costs from CA to TX ($6000), robot parts, pit setup and miscellaneous costs like the team apparel, food etc. Any excess funds will be saved for the team to continue participating in the program during the next year. Your donation will go to our partner Robot Garden (a 501(c)(3) organization) and all donations are tax-deductible. Any size of donation is greatly appreciated. Every donation will help us reach our goal.
For many of the students on the team, this may be their only opportunity to attend and compete at such a high-level international STEM event. With your help, we aspire to continue to give back to the community by inspiring young people to pursue STEM fields.
