THAT KID by Ashley Dawson
My name is Ashley Dawson and I never imagined I would be a filmmaker. It started when I learned the power of film as a tool for justice in my community.
I have succeeded due to commitment in my goals. The picture above was taken at the Bare Bones International Film Festival in Muskogee, Oklahoma where I presented a movie I produced with my friend "Mountain Lion: Healing Film of St. Francis".
Now it's my turn. I have written a short film entitled "That Kid" in order to shine light on the emotional challenges which gifted Black young people must endure in order to succeed in our society.
As someone who made it through our system -- which was not designed to serve me -- I invite you to join us in this creative community solution towards ensuring good educational environments for everyone.
