Sacred Lands, Native Hands was founded in 2017 with a shared understanding that restoration of IEK (Indigenous Ecological Knowledge) is a solution to the global climate crisis. As Native peoples continue to walk in our ceremonial ways, we struggle to obtain traditional foods, medicines, and other culturally significant plants. The lack of access to our aboriginal lands deprives us of culturally significant materials that in turn, threaten our cultural lifeways, our health, and the health of the land. We hope to restore IEK stewardship practices to this land as we have for thousands of years, that was put to a halted with the encroachment of soldiers, pioneers, and gold miners. We envision this land providing a space to exist as Native people where we may have abundant access to our cultural materials, and can raise our children as truly empowered peoples beyond the confines of a state park or bustling roads to pollute our foods and medicines.
