Help Rebuild the San Anselmo Co-op Nursery School
On January 2 during this year’s first epic rainstorm, a giant oak tree was uprooted from our backyard, toppled over and crashed onto the roof of our nursery school’s house creating significant damage to the property as well as our neighbors on either side. Thankfully no one was hurt. Since this happened amid a series of rainstorms the damage to our sweet building has gone beyond the initial structural damage to the roof, deck, and fence and is extensive, inside and out. We are still assessing the damage, but it’s bad enough that the school will be unusable for a significant amount of time.
There are now 33 children between 2-5 years old without a safe place to learn and make friends. In the meantime, we are looking for an alternative site for the rest of the school year.
In just the first week, the community has come together in collaboration to ensure the immediate and long-term survival of our precious school. In such a short time we have formed a babysitting co-op to provide current care for kids, pooled together resources to search for a new space to house the school moving forward as well many hard-working hours at the school site to secure the property from more storm damage.
We are grateful for our community and asking for help today as it is unclear to us how much of the rebuild will be covered by insurance and we know we will have many running expenses that will not get covered. The expense of the rebuild and alternative school space rental will likely go well above coverage limits.
Our school has served the communities of Marin since 1947, and we hope to keep going strong for years to come! Please donate to help us rebuild our school to be even better than it was before.
