Save A Kitty, Inc.

This emaciated kitty was found on the streets in Marina Del Rey. She was barely alive, full of fleas and her hair was so matted she was unrecognizable. Many people sadly passed the kitty by and did nothing to help.
A wonderful woman name Barbara scooped her up and took her to a Veterinarian. The kitty's hair was so matted that she was almost unrecognizable and she was pure skin and bones. She had a mass of maggots that had begun to infiltrate her little body creating a wound. The Veterinarian said that if she had been brought in even one hour later, she would have died.  One thing was for sure, this kitty had a strong will to live.


The first night she was extremely fragile and barely alive….So much so that the Veterinarian suggested euthansia. However, this little girl kitty held on through the night. Her initial rescuer, Barbara, believed in her and reached out via social media to get help. I saw the post and my heart sank. There was something special about this cat who was struggling to stay alive amidst the worst of circumstances. Barbara also gave her a name that grabbed my heart, BELLA. Our 12 year girl kitty, also named Bella, died suddenly this year. Helping this BELLA survive has become my mission in her honor.
Since I am on the board of SAVE A KITTY rescue, I reached out to the founder of SAVE A KITTY, Deborah Eskow.
Debbie quickly jumped on board to help rescue this girl and ultimately find her a new forever home. 
A friend of mine, Deborah Corday, also jumped on board to help facilitate getting Bella care at one of the top Veterinarian hospitals in Los Angeles. Bella’s condition and need for an immediate blood transfusion, required around the clock care at a state of the art facility just to survive. She is now being cared for by the wonderful staff at VCA West Los Angeles. 

Bella is struggling for her life and, amazingly, continues to maintain or get a little better everyday. Yet, she has a long road ahead.  Simply staying alive and eating are huge strides for her with each passing day. Among other things, Her body temperature continues to fluctuate, so the Veterinarians are keeping her inside a heated oxygen infused incubator in ICU. She has an open wound from the maggot infestation which is another area of concern. Ideally she needs a surgery to help facilitate healing of the wound. Bella is not strong enough for general anesthesia at this time, so keeping that wound from growing and spreading infection is also on the top priority list for her care.  She also had the blood transfusion on the first day at VCA.  The transfusion helped replace the red blood cells she lost from a flee infestation.

Constant medical care is necessary in order to make it through each day. She must be monitored hourly. We anticipate a need for her to stay in the hospital for a sustained amount of time. She shows us daily that she has a fire to LIVE…..We want to continue to give her that chance.

We believe Bella had a home and found herself abandoned or lost on the streets.
She is affectionate, craves human touch and had clearly been without food for a long time.
