Step Up for our Schuylkill Docks !
The Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia and Schuylkill Paddlers Inc are joining forces to steward safe dock access on the western shore of the Schuylkill for the people of Philadelphia.
Both paddlers and rowers know that nothing makes a boat (or project!) go faster than everyone pulling together in the same direction at once; so, we need you help!
DONATION OPTIONS:
By "Stepping Up for the Schuylkill Docks," you're contributing to safe access to the Schuylkill River and helping to support the next steps needed to craft a long-term strategy for our ever-evolving Schuylkill River. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND AND DETAILS:
Together, our organizations both know the transformative power of being on (or even near!) the water; and, we're excited to continue to work with the City to create an energetic riverfront that connects communities...
...with the mighty Schuylkill River (which provides 40% of PWD's Philly Tap) ,
...with our amazing Schuylkill River Shed (which is cleaner than it's ever been), and,
...with our beautiful Fairmount Park (which has the Schuylkill River running through its center core !)
Unfortunately, the Schuylkill's "mighty flow" has dealt multiple "mighty blows" from 2021-2023:
- City budget and additional grant monies are slated to help support new docks on both the eastern and western shores (and at the Finish Line) in coming years; BUT...
- Recent floods and loss have left both sides with few useable pieces from which boats can safely launch or from which people can safely view the water; SO...
- We're raising $30,000 to cover the estimated costs for materials which our volunteers will use to build 160' linear feet of new dock (with fresh flotation support).
Our initial focus is to rebuild an 8' x 160' linear section for use on the western shore just below the Columbia Bridge.
- From there, we'll also prioritize other needed areas (adding onto the City Dock, ensuring needed dock at the Grandstand Finish Line, etc).
- We'll plan to start work on the dock as soon as possible, with intended completion by April 15.
