Zach Jim Fund for Burke-Gilman Park / Eli's Park
We're honoring Zach this year by continuing to raise money for the Eli's Park project, which will renovate the Burke-Gilman park to be a place where people of all abilities can come together. The project is very much committed to equity for everyone regardless of their abilities or what they look like, which feels both timeless and timely for 2020.
Besides the fact that he would love this concept, this park also happens to be the place where Zach rode his bike for the last time on September 8, 2017. It was on his way home, so it's a special place to sit and remember him.
Our donations will go to the park fund. Design plans include a bench/bike rack in honor of Zach. City law prohibits a memorial plaque with his name on it, but we'll make sure that the project incorporates his memory in a way we can all appreciate. My mom and I had a wonderful conversation with the design team that left us feeling confident that the park will honor him, within the bounds of what city government allows.
