Dear Friends and Family,
The conflict that started a year ago has now reached a tipping point!
Our country is facing a humanitarian catastrophe that threatens to destabilize the region, the unity of the country, and the economic development the country has achieved in the past decades.
On November 2nd, the Ethiopian Federal Government declared a national state of emergency as the insurgent Tigrayan forces invaded Kombolcha and Dessie in the Amhara region, widening the war and causing unbelievable human suffering and displacement.
TPLF forces have continued to commit rampant human rights violations and gross atrocities on civilian populations in both Afar and Amhara regions, and most recently in Kombolcha and Dessie with the arbitrary killing of 100 youth in Kombolcha and over 200 innocent residents in Dessie, according to local reports.
“We saw TPLF entering through the main road in the morning, we ran to our homes,” a 32-year-old resident who gave his name only as Tadesse told the news agency. (Aljazeera)
Residents of Kombolcha have reported witnessing corpse in the streets, a deliberate attempt to terrorize residents, and the destruction of private and public properties, schools, as well as healthcare facilities.
TPLF has double down on the large-scale attacks by going door-to door to gun down residents suspected of siding with government forces and committing what would constitute war crimes against civilian populations under international humanitarian laws.
These terrorist acts that have now escalated to a critical point have caused unbelievable human suffering from Tigray, to Afar, and now in Amhara region, threatening to push further this trail of destruction all the way to the capital, Addis Ababa.
Communications have been cut off and journalists have been barred from entering affected areas, and as a result civilian are facing humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scope with growing shortage of food, drinking water, medicines, health services, and emergency shelter.
Because of this, we need your help now more than ever!
The Derash Ethiopian Diaspora Relief Fund (DEDRF), in collaboration with Serve Global Inc., is aiming to raise $200,000 to rebuilding destroyed hospitals and schools, provide emergency shelter and food aid to the thousands of displaced civilians, especially in Afar and Amhara regions.
About 840,000 civilians (700,000 in Amhara and 140,000 in Afar) have been displaced from their homes, and millions more are in immediate need of life-saving humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter, school infrastructure and health care.
Millions have now been designated IDPs (internally displaced people) and have fled to neighboring regions and countries where they face insurmountable hurdles in overcrowded shelter camps that lack basic necessitates.
Your tax-deductible donation will allow us to purchase medical equipment and supplies to rebuild destroyed hospitals and schools, while providing food and temporary shelter assistance for the people of Afar and Amhara affected by TPLF’s indiscriminate attacks.
Funds collected through this fundraiser will go directly to our trusted partners, the Amhara Disaster Prevention Commission and the Afar Disaster Prevention Commission, who will oversee the distribution of the funds in areas with dire humanitarian need.
Your action today will extend a critical lifeline to civilians affected by this crisis that is coming at the heels of not just an unnecessary war but also of a global Covid-19 pandemic.
If you are unable to donate now, consider helping us spread the word by sharing the GoFundMe link on social media with family, friends, and colleagues to raise awareness and help us meet our goal.
Thank you for your generous contribution and for standing with us!
God Bless
