Sinkumunchis is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and public charity dedicated to providing access to soccer training for youth in native Quechua communities in the Peruvian Andes. Founded in 2021, we work in remote areas that face significant economic, geographic, and cultural barriers to accessing sports and physical education. These communities often have limited opportunities for personal development and empowerment.

Our organization believes in the transformative power of soccer to instill essential life skills, foster teamwork, and build a sense of community. Sinkumunchis, meaning "We roll together" in Quechua, combines soccer training with the preservation of Quechua language and culture—spoken by over 3 million people in Peru and 10 million worldwide.

Since launching, we’ve opened schools in four districts, serving over 1,500 children and young adults. We provide training equipment, cover transportation costs, and improve local infrastructure to ensure every child has the opportunity to play, compete, and grow.

This Giving Tuesday, our goal is to raise $30,000 to continue transforming lives. Your support will help us expand to more communities, provide more resources for players, and create even more opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and shine through soccer.

The Sinkumunchis Youth Ambassadors Program is an organization of high school students who are committed to helping Sinkumunchis achieve their mission of providing kids and young adults in Perú with access to soccer programs. We have established a goal of raising $30,000 which will help fund one of Sinkumunchis’ four soccer schools. Specifically, this funding will support the Huayllabamba schools which serve over 400 students in the Sacred Valley region of Cusco.

Sinkumunchis has now opened 4 schools serving over 1,500 beneficiaries with their programs. With your support, Sinkumunchis provides access to these communities to ongoing football training, good quality sports equipment, access to tournaments and competitions, transportation and interdisciplinary programs such as welding, astronomy, English exchanges, and others.

More than 40% of our students are women, aiming to leverage sports as a platform to transform their lives. In many native Quechua communities, being a woman comes with its unique set of challenges. Established gender norms often limit opportunities for girls and young women. Sinkumunchis places a special emphasis on the development of women's soccer in these communities, aiming to break down barriers and empower young females to overcome societal expectations. By providing a platform for girls to engage in sports, we are not only fostering physical well-being but also challenging stereotypes and promoting gender equality.

Sinkumunchis’ programs consist of 10 months of intensive football training, where participants not only hone their athletic skills but also learn crucial life skills such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. To further their development, we organize tournaments, providing a chance for these young players to showcase their talents and continue their growth. These events not only serve as a celebration of their hard work but also as an opportunity to connect with other communities and share experiences.

We take pride in the positive impact Sinkumunchis has on the well-being of our participants. According to two independent studies, children who participate in Sinkumunchis are twice as likely to "feel healthy" compared to their peers who don't have access to our programs. Additionally, a pre and post-study conducted in collaboration with Fulbright scholars demonstrated positive impacts across various well-being areas, including enhanced concentration and increased energy levels.

At Sinkumunchis, our impact goes beyond the soccer field. We are committed to not only empowering the youth in Quechua-speaking communities but also creating economic opportunities for our dedicated trainers. By investing in the development of our coaching staff, we ensure that local talent is nurtured and supported. This not only enhances the quality of our soccer programs but also contributes to the economic sustainability of the communities we serve. Through fair employment practices and ongoing training initiatives, we aim to build a network of skilled trainers who, in turn, become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

Founded in 2021, Sinkumunchis is a nonprofit organization that develops soccer schools in remote, Quechua-speaking farmer communities in Perú. We provide access to sports and physical education to kids and young adults who lack it due to economic, geographic, and cultural reasons.

Sinkumunchis, meaning “We roll together” in the native Quechua language, aims to be the first soccer school to incorporate the Quechua language and culture as a central element in its syllabus.

There are 2.7 million people in Perú who live in Quechua-speaking farmer communities. Yet, they are underrepresented politically and receive little to no support from federal, state, and local governments on critical matters such as education, health, and economic development.

Ongoing soccer training on a consistent schedule is Sinkumunchis’ core offering. We provide 2-3 training sessions to groups of different age categories: U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, and U18, both boys and girls.

Most kids and young adults in farmer communities lack access to proper training equipment. Sinkumunchis helps provide uniforms, shin guards, and cleats for the kids to shine on game day.

Many kids come to train in their “ojotas”, a sandal native to farmer communities. Unfortunately, while they are very cool and valuable, they are not the best for running and kicking the ball around!

While training is fun and provides an opportunity for continued improvement, ultimately players want to compete and play in tournaments. Therefore, we provide opportunities for players from the communities to participate in local tournaments. There are few local tournaments for youth and women, so we also support the development of competitions in the area that also help drive economic growth.

Sinkumunchis places a significant emphasis on gender equality and women empowerment. We helped the Chahuaytire women’s team participate in their first district tournament in Arin, one hour away from their community, while also supporting the tournament organizers with prizes for the winners.

One of the main challenges that farmer communities face is transportation, given their remote location and underdeveloped roads. Due to this, it is challenging for most kids to participate in programs or games outside their communities. Sinkumunchis helps cover all transportation costs to and from training and soccer games, which allows young players to expand their horizons beyond their communities.

Sinkumunchis also aims to help improve the community's infrastructure to support physical activity, whether it be enhancing field conditions or installing lighting for the soccer fields to maximize the amount of playtime.

When the sun sets, it usually means soccer training has to conclude because most soccer fields in farmer communities lack lighting. This situation limits the amount of time kids can play and continue developing their game.

We established our first school in Chahuaytire, one of the 12 farmer communities in the district Pisac. We are currently in the process of expanding this school to incorporate the other communities in the district. You can read some of our accomplishments below:

The money we raise from GoFundMe will help us keep our operations going until the end of 2022 as well as support us in the development of new schools. In the mid to long term, we aim to raise funds via both private and public companies, associations, nonprofit collaborations and others as we develop partnerships in Perú, the United States and beyond.

All of us at Sinkumunchis firmly believe in the benefits of playing team sports at an early age and that everyone should be able to benefit from playing sports. Whether it be physical health benefits, mental well-being, or the development of soft skills that will transfer from the soccer pitch to real-life situations.

As we approach the season of giving, Sinkumunchis is excited to launch a special Giving Tuesday fundraiser to make a lasting impact on the lives of kids and young adults in remote, low-income native communities in Peru. Our goal is to raise $50,000, which will cover the costs of two of our schools for an entire year, supporting over 500 players – boys and girls alike. The first $10,000 in donations will be matched 1:1 by one of our generous supporters, doubling the impact of the first donations we receive.
